Recent Improvements in Size Effects Correlations for DBTT and Upper Shelf Energy of Ferritic Steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Currently available correlations for the effects of specimen size on the upper shelf energy (USE) were developed for relatively ductile steels and do not serve as well when the steels become embrittled. Size effects correlations were developed recently for the impact properties of less ductile HT9 to be applied to other initially more ductile steels as

Machine Learning Applied to High Entropy Alloys under Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 23, December 2025.
Designing alloys for extreme environments demands fast, trustworthy prediction. This review charts how machine learning—especially machine‐learned interatomic potentials and predictive models based on experiment‐informed datasets—captures the complexity of high‐entropy alloys in extreme environments, predicts phase formation, mechanical properties, and

Development of a micro-scale Y–Zr–O oxide-dispersion-strengthened steel fabricated via vacuum induction melting and electro-slag remelting

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
In this paper, the CLAM steel strengthened by micro-scale Y–Zr–O was prepared by vacuum induction melting followed by electroslag remelting (VIM-ESR). Yttrium (Y) and zirconium (Zr) were easy to aggregates into massive yttrium-zirconium-rich inclusions ...

High‐Performance Tungsten Components via Low‐Temperature Spray‐Dried Powder and Low‐Energy SLM: A Breakthrough for Refractory Metal Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study combines low‐temperature spray drying with low‐energy SLM technology to produce high‐sphericity tungsten powder, enabling low‐energy consumption printing. It proposes the E/v ≤ 2 parameter framework to suppress cracks, with the components exhibiting excellent performance, providing a universal solution for additive manufacturing of high ...

Engineering Framework to Transfer the Lower Bound Fracture Toughness between Different Temperatures in the DBTT Region

open access: yesProcedia Structural Integrity, 2016
AbstractIn this paper, an engineering framework to transfer the lower bound fracture toughness between different temperatures in the ductile–to–brittle (DBTT) temperature region is proposed and validated for 0.55% carbon steel using 0.5TSE(B) specimens. The framework requires only stress–strain curve for different temperatures as experimental data. The

Temperature-dependent deformation and fracture properties of low-carbon martensitic steel in different stress states

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The temperature-dependent ductile-brittle transition (DBT) in low-carbon martensitic steel is investigated in different stress states. To capture the effects of the stress state, tensile tests have been performed with flat specimens and three-point ...

Functional Electrolyte Additives: A Pinch of Salt/Solvent to an Electrolyte for High Energy Density Lithium‐Ion and Lithium–Metal Batteries

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 34, August 28, 2025.
Electrolytes, often termed as the “blood” of battery play a decisive role in determining their performance metrics. This review thoroughly analyzes the role of functional electrolyte additives improving the performance and safety of Li‐ion/Li–metal batteries involving film formation, overcharge control, wide temperature and voltage operation ...

Exploring the Selective Distribution of PE‐g‐AA in the PA6/AES Blend: Rheological, Mechanical, Thermal, Thermomechanical Properties, and Morphology

open access: yesPolymers for Advanced Technologies, Volume 36, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Polymeric blends are essential in the plastics processing industry for offering tailor‐made properties such as durability, flexibility, and toughness, and expanding applications. This study investigated, for the first time, the use of polyethylene grafted with acrylic acid (PE‐g‐AA) as a compatibilizer in blends of polyamide 6 (PA6) with ...

Partitioning and Coarsening Dynamics of Precipitate‐Strengthened Cr‐Si Alloys: The Role of Ge, Pt, and Mo

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 9, May 2025.
The microstructure of Cr‐rich Cr‐Si‐alloys is maintained by alloying with Ge, Pt, and Mo. The effects of these elements on A15‐phase fraction, partitioning, microstructural stability, grain size, and hardness are combinable. Molybdenum is found to be the most promising alloying element for microstructural stability during high‐temperature exposure.
