DC link capacitor selection for DC-DC converters

2020 12th Electrical Engineering Faculty Conference (BulEF), 2020
This paper presents a strategy for DC-link capacitor selection for a low voltage DC-DC buck converter with load current in the range of 0.2kA up to 1kA. The power source is a rechargeable battery and despite its relatively low internal resistance, the choice of input capacitance is critical to the proper operation of the converter.

Condition Monitoring of DC Link Electrolytic Capacitors in Adjustable Speed Drives

2007 IEEE Industry Applications Annual Meeting, 2007
A new preventive maintenance strategy for the sensorless condition monitoring of inverter dc-link aluminum electrolytic capacitors based on equivalent series resistance (ESR) and capacitance C estimation is proposed. The main concept of the proposed method is to estimate the ESR and C of the capacitor, using the inverter whenever the motor is stopped ...

Method for balancing capacitors voltages on split DC-links

2016 18th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'16 ECCE Europe), 2016
A technique to actively balance the voltages on series-connected capacitors designated to split DC sources whose loads comprise power converters is presented. It performs such balancing dynamically, enabling the voltage equalization even for small capacitors under wide power and voltages ranges. Proposal consists on lightly controlling the power of one

Investigation of performance of UPFC without DC link capacitor

Electric Power Systems Research, 2008
This paper presents an analysis of the dynamic operation of unified power flow controller without DC link capacitor. In this scheme of UPFC the shunt converter present in the static synchronous compensator is operated as a current source rectifier, which maintains a fixed DC voltage and DC current on the DC link without capacitor.

A DC-link current study of the Capacitor Clamped Converter

2014 12th International Conference on Actual Problems of Electronics Instrument Engineering (APEIE), 2014
This paper presents a DC-link current study of Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) and Capacitor Clamped Converter based on IMC and Flying Capacitor (FC) technologies. The general control techniques are introduced with computer simulation for all investigated schemes and obtained results are given and discussed in the article.

Verification of frequency converter with small DC-link capacitor

2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005
Traditionally, large DC-link capacitors have been used in voltage source inverters. By using MPPF-type capacitor the line current harmonic content is improved and the unreliable electrolytic capacitor can be omitted. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of an inverter with small DC-link capacitor has been studied by simulations and laboratory tests.

Universal precharging method for dc-link and flying capacitors of four-level Flying Capacitor Converter

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
This paper investigates universal start-up procedure for Flying Capacitor Converter (FLC). Main part of this procedure is pre-charging of the dc-link and flying capacitors. This method is usable for voltage pre-charging in rectifier as well as inverter mode of the multilevel FLC converter. This specific feature is based on use of converter topology and

Early diagnosis in DC-link capacitors: electrolytic and films

2018
This chapter presents an RUL prediction algorithm based on accelerated life test data and derived physics models for electrolytic capacitors. The main elements are (1) development of the first principles based degradation models; (2) the implementation of a Bayesian-based health state tracking and RUL prediction algorithm based on the Kalman filtering ...
