A modular DC transformer with DC fault ride-through capability

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract DC transformers are core equipment for constructing multi-voltage-level DC distribution networks. However, mainstream DC transformer topologies, which are based on the Input-Series Output-Parallel Dual Active Bridge (ISOP-DAB), currently have deficiencies in fault blocking capability and fault-tolerant redundancy design.

A lightweight MMC topology with recombined half‐bridge submodules for DC fault ride‐through

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution
The lightweight of modular multilevel converter (MMC) and the DC faults ride‐through ability are main challenges for MMC‐high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems.

Stair‐Climbing Wheelchairs for Enhanced Mobility: A Comprehensive Review of Fundamental Mechanisms, Design Concepts, and Performance Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT People with physical disabilities face significant mobility challenges while climbing uneven surfaces and staircases. In these circumstances, traditional wheelchairs do not provide stable, safely controlled mobility, underscoring the importance of building superior stair‐climbing wheelchairs for both medical and infrastructure purposes.

Review of the Configuration and Transient Stability of Large-Scale Renewable Energy Generation Through Hybrid DC Transmission

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems
Based on the complementary advantages of Line Commutated Converter (LCC) and Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) in power grid applications, there are two types of hybrid DC system topologies: one is the parallel connection of LCC converter stations and ...

Zero‐Current Switching Based Model Predictive Control of a Double‐Extended Overlapped Alternate Arm Converter Used in the VSC–HVDC System

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The alternate arm converter (AAC) is one of the most efficient multilevel topologies based on voltage source converters (VSCs), which has recently gained attention in various applications, particularly in high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems.

DC Fault Analysis of Modular DC/DC Converter Employing a New Submodule With Damping-Resistor

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
DC transformer is the key equipment to interconnect the high voltage dc systems with different voltage levels and build dc grid. Compared with the dc/ac/dc converter based on modular multilevel converter, the non-isolated modular dc/dc converter (MDCC ...

Optimization of Wind‐PV Co‐Generation Systems Using Artificial Bee Colony and Back‐to‐Back Voltage Source Converter

open access: yesIET Smart Energy Systems, EarlyView.
The Graphical Abstract depicts the proposed Artificial Bee Colony algorithm‐based optimal tuning of PI controllers for back‐to‐back Voltage Source Converters in a hybrid wind–PV system. ABSTRACT This paper proposes a hybrid model‐based back‐to‐back voltage‐source converter (B2B‐VSC) system comprising a Photovoltaic (PV) array and a Permanent Magnet ...

Controllable DC‐link fault current limiter augmentation with DC chopper to improve fault ride‐through of DFIG

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2017
Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbines are sensitive to grid faults due to utilising small‐scale rotor side converter (RSC). The application of crowbar protection to improve the fault ride‐through (FRT) capability of the DFIG converts it to a squirrel cage induction generator, which makes it difficult to comply with grid codes.

‘Enthusiasts’ and ‘Fanatics’: The Decembrists as a Case Study in French Influence on Russian Culture, Emotions and Thought

open access: yesHistory, EarlyView.
Abstract Participants in Russia's 1825 Decembrist uprising against the Tsarist regime were, quite literally, a case study in French cultural influence upon Russia. This is particularly true as it relates to Russia's emotional cultures. Although this has not, traditionally, been the primary focus of historical analysis of this event (in Soviet or ...

Fault Ride-through Capability Enhancement of Voltage Source Converter-High Voltage Direct Current Systems with Bridge Type Fault Current Limiters

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
This paper proposes the use of bridge type fault current limiters (BFCLs) as a potential solution to reduce the impact of fault disturbance on voltage source converter-based high voltage DC (VSC-HVDC) systems.
