High gain DC-DC converter with protection circuit

2011 International Conference on Energy, Automation and Signal, 2011
This paper proposes a method to obtain a protected voltage gain by employing a protection circuit for the voltage doubler or multiplier circuit in an isolated tyde DC-DC Converter. The entire set up consists of a phase shift converter with a protected bridge/voltage doubler rectifier on the output side.

DC Protection on the Electric Ship

2007 IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium, 2007
The need for DC power at continuous uninterrupted rates is a reality for ship survival during highly intense combat and regular travel. One of the new proposed distribution systems on the all-electric ship (E-ship) is designed using a DC distribution method (zones) in which the use of transformers and possible frequency issues/manipulations can be ...

Design of DC system protection

2013 IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium (ESTS), 2013
A modified Z-source breaker topology is introduced to minimize the reflected fault current drawn from a source while retaining a common return ground path. A conventional Z-source breaker does not provide steady-state overload protection and can only guard against extremely large transient faults. The Z-source breaker can be designed for considerations

Research on DC Line Protection

2014 International Symposium on Computer, Consumer and Control, 2014
As the main protection of high voltage direct current (HVDC), the traveling wave protection is not easily affected by the resistance and capacitance of the transmission line, but there are still some shortcomings. This article not only briefly analyses some the traveling wave protection method based on wavelet transform and mathematical morphology, but

A Review of DC Micro-grid Protection

2013
In this paper, an overview of DC micro-grid is described, which includes the status of DC micro-grid protection and its future development. The paper presents the key techniques of DC micro-grid protection. So far, standards, guidelines and techniques for DC micro-grid protection are well behind AC system.

AC/DC railway electrification and protection

9th IET Professional Development Course on Electric Traction Systems, 2006
The technical strength of all electrification schemes lies in the fact that the prime mover is removed from the train; but this is also its economic weakness. By taking power from a distribution network there is almost unlimited power available which has been efficiently produced but the cost of providing the fixed installations can only be justified ...

Converter-based DC Distribution System Protection

2018 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS), 2018
Dc distribution systems are being widely adopted in many industrial, commercial and military energy systems such as commercial buildings, data centers, off-shore wind farms, and shipboard power systems. A dc distribution system can improve energy efficiency and reduce the size or weight of power systems.

Protective Systems in DC Microgrids

2019
The aging power system causes to several grid problems such as intermittency, power quality issues, and blackouts since a few decades. Therefore, the power infrastructure requires serious troubleshooting studies in a wide manner. The distributed generation and integration of large photovoltaic (PV) plants to the existing utility have led to intensive ...

Protection for distributed generations in the DC micro-grid

2011 2nd IEEE PES International Conference and Exhibition on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, 2011
In this paper, an analysis results for the protection of a DC micro-grid is described. The 400V DC micro-grid consists of a wind power system (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, PMSG), a photo-voltaic system, a fuel cell system and energy storages. Abnormal operating conditions during various faults are studied. According to a series of studies, a

Structuring, Controlling and Protecting the DC Grid

2020 International Symposium on Electronics and Telecommunications (ISETC), 2020
The structure of a DC grid enables control and protection in a different way, as usually employed in AC grids. Power electronic converters combine the control and protection. The structure of the DC grid is also determined by the type of power electronic converters being centralized or decentralized.
