On‐Chip Perovskite Coolers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 1, 8 January 2026.
Scaling of 3D‐integrated electronics exacerbates thermal bottlenecks, motivating solid‐state on‐chip cooling beyond convection and immersion. This perspective reviews optical refrigeration, electroluminescent cooling, and thermoelectrics for localized, vibration‐free heat removal.

Engineering of an Ancestral McbA with Enhanced Domain Mobility Extends Biocatalytic Amide Synthesis Scope

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 2, January 2026.
We show how engineered ancestral amide bond synthetases (ABSs) together with cofactor recycling using a single polyphosphate kinase paves the way for chemoenzymatic synthesis of pharmacophores. The figure illustrates how ancestral ABS has a more flexible C‐terminal domain, which is associated with enhanced catalytic performance and expanded amine scope.

Activity Profiling of Nitro‐Substituted Di(Hetero)Aryl 1,3,4‐ and 1,2,4‐Oxadiazoles: Antimicrobial, Cholinesterase Inhibition and Antioxidant Potential

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 359, Issue 1, January 2026.
Novel nitro‐substituted diaryl 1,3,4‐ and 1,2,4‐oxadiazoles were synthesised via molecular hybridisation of bioactive heterocycles. Selected derivatives exhibited potent antimicrobial activity, including against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus, and cholinesterase inhibitory activity, with promising selectivity.

Cycloaddition of CO2 to Epoxides Using Bifunctional Triphenylphosphonium Catalysts

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 1, 15 January 2026.
Metal‐free phosphonium‐pyridine catalysts enable the solvent‐free fixation of carbon dioxide with diverse epoxides at 1 amt, including challenging bio‐based terpenes. ABSTRACT A series of pyridine‐grafted triphenylphosphonium salts [Ph3P+R]Cl− (R = benzyl (1), pyridine‐2‐ylmethyl (2), pyridine‐3‐ylmethyl (3), and pyridine‐4‐ylmethyl (4)) were ...
