Resonant Interactions of Dean Vortices in a Curved Channel Flow

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1998
Summary: Stability of the flow in a curved channel is investigated with the Dean approximation by using the weakly nonlinear stability theory. A set of amplitude equations for the Dean vortices of wavenumber ratio \(1:2\) is derived. The amplitude equations describe the resonant interactions between the fundamental mode and the higher harmonic.

Energetic effects on the stability of viscoelastic Dean flow

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2000
The influence of energetics on linear stability of viscoelastic Dean flow is examined for non-isothermal Oldroyd-B fluid.

A purely elastic instability in Dean and Taylor–Dean flow

Physics of Fluids A: Fluid Dynamics, 1992
The linear stability of the viscoelastic flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid between rotating cylinders with an applied, azimuthal pressure gradient is considered. It is found that this Taylor–Dean flow is unstable in certain flow parameter regimes even in the limit of vanishingly small Reynolds number.

Dean flow fractionation of chromosomes

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
Efforts to transfer intact mammalian chromosomes between cells have been attempted for more than 50 years with the consistent result being transfer of sub unit length pieces regardless of method. Inertial microfluidics is a new field that has shown much promise in addressing the fractionation of particles in the 2-20 μm size range (with unknown limits)
