Chiral symmetry breaking and entropy production in Dean vortices
In toroidal pipes, the secondary flow in cross section is a mirror symmetric pair of counter-rotating axially oriented Dean vortices. This mirror symmetry is broken in helical pipes. We investigate in detail the mirror symmetry breaking in these secondary flows in going from toroidal to helical geometries.

Effects of inlet junctions on horizontally stratified flows
Horizontally stratified flows can be seen in a wide variety of micro-scale engineering problems. Recent studies have shown that diffusion at the interface between two liquids leads to a lateral flow, causing the fluid to rotate around the central axis of

Influence of the meandering channel geometry on the thermo-hydraulic performances of an intensified heatexchanger/reactor [PDF]
In the global context of process intensification, heat exchanger/reactors are promising apparatuses to implement exothermic chemical syntheses. However, unlike heat exchange processes, the implementation of chemical syntheses requires to control the ...

Stereo and time-resolved PIV for measuring pulsatile exhaust flow from a motorized engine
The present experimental study deals with a pulsatile turbulent flow simulating the exhaust flow of an automotive engine. In the experiments, a four-cylinder engine is used as an exhaust-flow generator to realize flow conditions close to those in an ...

Microscopic Investigation of Vortex Breakdown in a Dividing T-Junction Flow [PDF]
3D-printed microfluidic devices offer new ways to study fluid dynamics. We present the first clear visualization of vortex breakdown in a dividing T-junction flow. By individual control of the inflow and two outflows, we decouple the effects of swirl and
