Chiral symmetry breaking and entropy production in Dean vortices [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2023
In toroidal pipes, the secondary flow in cross section is a mirror symmetric pair of counter-rotating axially oriented Dean vortices. This mirror symmetry is broken in helical pipes. We investigate in detail the mirror symmetry breaking in these secondary flows in going from toroidal to helical geometries.

Numerical investigation of Dean vortex evolution in turbulent flow through 90° pipe bends [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
The current study focuses on numerically simulating turbulent flow in a 90° pipe bend using the k-ε turbulence model. Following validation of present numerical approach against prior experimental findings, extensive research was conducted to elucidate ...

Dean-Flow Affected Lateral Focusing and Separation of Particles and Cells in Periodically Inhomogeneous Microfluidic Channels [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2023
The purpose of the recent work is to give a better explanation of how Dean vortices affect lateral focusing, and to understand how cell morphology can alter the focusing position compared to spherical particles.

Formulation of Peptide-Based Nanoparticles Using a Microfluidic Device. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Pept Sci
A case study using the TAMARA microfluidic device (Inside Therapeutics) was performed for peptide‐based nanoparticles under different operational parameters such as mixing channel geometry, total flow rate, and flow rate ratio. In this context, WRAP5 cell‐penetrating peptide‐based nanoparticles for siRNA or pDNA delivery demonstrated enhanced ...

Non-uniform Convection Heat Transfer Characteristics of Supercritical Methane in 180° Curved Duct

open access: yesJournal of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 2022
In order to reveal the heat transfer mechanism of supercritical methane (S-CH4) heat exchanger, the non-uniform convection heat transfer characteristics of supercritical methane (S-CH4) in a 180° curved duct are numerically analyzed.

Experimental investigation of Dean-vortices oscillation downstream of a 90° Bend

open access: yesExperimental Thermal and Fluid Science
International audienceThe present work experimentally investigates the dynamics of a pipe flow downstream of a 90 degrees bend in turbulent regime. The study is carried out on two different test benches, enabling to cover a decade in Reynolds numbers (Re

PIV-Measurements of Centrifugal Instabilities in a Rectangular Curved Duct with a Small Aspect Ratio

open access: yesFluids, 2021
In this study, experimental measurements were undertaken using non-intrusive particle image velocimetry (PIV) to investigate fluid flow within a 180° rectangular, curved duct geometry of a height-to-width aspect ratio of 0.167 and a curvature of 0.54 ...

Investigation of Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop in Microchannel Heat Sink Using Al2O3 and ZrO2 Nanofluids

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
A new micro heat exchanger was analyzed using numerical formulation of conjugate heat transfer for single-phase fluid flow across copper microchannels. The flow across bent channels harnesses asymmetric laminar flow and dean vortices phenomena for heat ...

Effects of inlet junctions on horizontally stratified flows

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
Horizontally stratified flows can be seen in a wide variety of micro-scale engineering problems. Recent studies have shown that diffusion at the interface between two liquids leads to a lateral flow, causing the fluid to rotate around the central axis of

Passive Mixing and Convective Heat Transfer Enhancement for Nanofluid Flow across Corrugated Base Microchannels

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Vortex generators and pin fins are conventionally used to deliver fluid mixing and improved convective heat transfer. The increased pressure loss following a fractional increase in heat transfer, as well as the complex manufacturing design, leave room ...
