Serine 39 in the GTP-binding domain of Drp1 is involved in shaping mitochondrial morphology. [PDF]
FEBS Open BioDrp1 is one of the critical proteins of mitochondrial fission. We studied the effects of the loss‐of‐function mutation of serine 39 in the GTPase domain of Drp1 in an in vitro cellular model. The mutation results in elongated mitochondria, leading to structural anomalies in the mitochondrial network.
