Active Versus Passive eDNA Sampling Across Depths at a Tropical Fish‐Aggregating Device (FAD)

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
Sampling at a fish aggregating device over three consecutive days using active and passive samplers detected a total of 39 fish operational taxonomic units (OTUs). Of these, 25 OTUs were shared between the two sampling approaches. The composition of detected OTUs varied among days and between sampler types.

Shortfin scad, Decapterus macrosoma, a new host record for Ceratothoa carinata (Isopoda: Cymothoidae)

open access: yesBiogeography, 2017
Specimens of Ceratothoa carinata (Bianconi, 1869) were collected from the buccal cavity of shortfin scad, Decapterus macrosoma Bleeker, 1851, commercially caught in the Kii Channel and adjacent waters, western North Pacific, off Wakayama Prefecture, central Japan. These are a new host record for C. carinata.

Nutrient Composition of Marine Fish Species From the East African Coast: Implications for Food and Nutrition Security

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study novel analytical data of 24 commonly consumed marine fish species from East Africa to assess their nutrient content and contribution to Codex nutrient reference values. Results showed that small fish species, typically eaten whole, are richer in key micronutrients compared to larger, filleted species. These findings highlight the nutritional

Maturity and Spawning of Shortfin Scad (Decapterus macrosoma) (Carangidae) of the Java Sea

open access: yesAsian Fisheries Science, 1991
Maturity and .spawning of shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) in the Java Sea were investigated using macroscopic characteristics of the gonad for determining the stages of maturity and gonadosomatic index (GSI) for the growth of the gonads. The fish reached maturity in July; spawning would likely occur in July/August.

Moorea lagoon fishers’ mental maps: An exploratory analysis of Polynesian spatial knowledge

open access: yesEthos, Volume 52, Issue 1, Page 114-137, March 2024.
Abstract This empirical study builds upon prior research concerning cultural influences on spatial mental representations in Oceania. A comprehensive examination of 93 mental maps sourced from 59 lagoon fishers of Moorea (French Polynesia) reveals interesting facts about the way they organize and share their spatial knowledge.
