Beneficial effects of rosemary, thyme and tarragon essential oils on postharvest decay of Valencia oranges

open access: yesChemical and Biological Technologies in Agriculture, 2019
Background Increasing restrictions on pesticide application in the production process of agricultural food products indicate urgent need for safer alternatives to keep the product quality, and to inhibit pathogen infections.

Influence of Soil Characteristics on Wood Biodeterioration by Brown Rot Fungi

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Soil conditions can directly influence the inoculum potential of wood decay fungi, which is likely to be a major factor in the premature failure of utility poles across Europe. The objective of our study was to assess the influence of soil pH, humic acid

Evolutionary, Functional and Mechanistic Characterisation of Microbial Terpene Synthase‐Like Genes From Springtails

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A genome analysis revealed the presence of many bacterial‐type terpene synthases in springtails. Four enzymes from Sinella curviseta were functionally characterised, resulting in the isolation of several compounds including sinellene ether, the first diterpene ether identified from a terpene synthase that represents a novel skeleton.

Risk of Damage Inside Wooden Cultural Heritage Sites Based on Temperature, Humidity, and Airborne Fungi in South Korea

open access: yesBioResources
The temperature, humidity, and indoor airborne fungi were evaluated at 24 wooden cultural heritage sites (WCHs) (5 from field surveys and 19 from previous studies). Surface contaminating fungi was present year-round in the indoor space of WCHs.

Ozone reduces fruit decay in ‘Yuluxiang’ pear during shelf life by altering surface microbial community structure

open access: yesScientia Horticulturae
‘Yuluxiang’ pear fruit are susceptible to postharvest decay when mechanically damaged. Ozone treatment effectively reduces decay and extends shelf life. To explore its effect and mechanism, we treated ‘Yuluxiang’ pear fruit with different concentrations ...

Embedding Strength of Wood Exposed to Decay Fungi

open access: yesMokuzai Gakkaishi, 2007

Synergistic Advanced Oxidation and Physicochemical Treatment Strategies for Antibiotic Removal and Resistance Mitigation in Water

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of antibiotics in water not only causes environmental pollution but also increases the growth of antibiotic‐resistant bacterial genes, which pose serious threats to human beings and other water residents. Large numbers of people are reportedly affected by the resistant bacterial genes, as many broad‐spectrum antibiotics are not ...

From Agro‐Industrial Waste to Functional Packaging Using Antimicrobial and Mechanically Reinforced Starch Foams With Melon Seed and Rosemary

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Agro‐industrial waste was upcycled into biodegradable starch foams reinforced with melon seed and rosemary flours, yielding sustainable food packaging with enhanced mechanical performance, selective antimicrobial activity, and rapid biodegradation. ABSTRACT The demand for sustainable alternatives to petroleum‐based packaging has promoted starch‐based ...
