VERA monitoring of the radio jet 3C 84 during 2007--2013: detection of non-linear motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a kinematic study of the subparsec-scale radio jet of the radio galaxy 3C 84/NGC 1275 with the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry (VERA) array at 22 GHz for 80 epochs from 2007 October to 2013 December.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Statistical analysis of low latitude spread F at the American, Atlantic, and Pacific sectors using digisonde observations

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
Statistical analysis of low latitude spread F is presented for three different longitudinal sectors from Jicamarca (12°S, 76.8°W, −2.5° declination angle) from 2001 to 2016, Ascension Island (7.9°S, 14.4°W, −15.09° declination angle) from 2000 to 2014 ...

IceCube Sensitivity for Neutrino Flux from Fermi Blazars in Quiescent States

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the IceCube detection potential of very high energy neutrinos from blazars, for different classes of "hadronic" models, taking into account the limits imposed on the neutrino flux by the recent Fermi telescope observations.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Association Between the Morphology of Proximal Tibiofibular Joint and the Presence of Knee OA

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the morphology of the proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) and the presence of knee osteoarthritis (OA).Methods: Twenty-eight OA subjects and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled in this

Interpretation of neutrino flux limits from neutrino telescopes on the Hillas plot

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss the interplay between spectral shape and detector response beyond a simple E^-2 neutrino flux at neutrino telescopes, at the example of time-integrated point source searches using IceCube-40 data.

Case in Decline

open access: yes, 2012
AbstractThis article explores the main aspects of the reduction/loss of case and the decay of case marking systems. The general mechanisms which lead to the merger of case and case syncretism and, eventually, to the loss of (some) cases include: phonetic processes which result in the loss of the difference between two or more case forms, that is ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

UK 2009-2010 repeat station report

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2013
The British Geological Survey is responsible for conducting the UK geomagnetic repeat station programme. Measurements made at the UK repeat station sites are used in conjunction with the three UK magnetic observatories: Hartland, Eskdalemuir and Lerwick,
