Iterative decoding convergence and termination of serially concatenated codes

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we demonstrate that previously proposed serially concatenated codes only facilitate iterative decoding convergence towards points that are near but not at the top-right hand corner of the EXIT chart, which typically results in an error ...

Autour de l’Oedipus chymicus

open access: yesMethodos, 2008
Comparing the Leibniz’s Oedipus chymicus, written in 1710, with its possible reference, the homonymous text by J.J. Becher in 1664, this paper tries to determine why Leibniz had such an interest for the chemistry of his time.

Symbol-Flipping Based Decoding of Generalized Low-Density Parity-Check Coded Constructed over GF(q)

open access: yes, 2006
An efficient symbol-flipping based decoding algorithm designed for nonbinary Generalized Low-Density Parity-Check (GLDPC) codes is proposed. By extending the concept of the Weighted Bit Flip Voting (WBFV) algorithm designed for binary Hamming-code based ...

Ultra‐High‐Throughput Discovery of Multifunctional Polyphenolic Coatings on Droplet Microarrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An ultra‐high‐throughput (UHT) combinatorial strategy enables the miniaturized synthesis and screening of ≈30 000 polyamine‐polyphenolic (PaPp) coatings using droplet microarrays (DMA). This approach reveals hundreds of previously unknown fluorescent, redox‐active, and antibacterial materials, including multifunctional, cell‐compatible surfaces ...

Increasing the speed of parallel decoding of turbo codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Turbo codes experience a significant decoding delay because of the iterative nature of the decoding algorithms, the high number of metric computations and the complexity added by the (de)interleaver.

Fiber‐Endface‐Integrated PdSe2/2H‐MoTe2 Heterojunction Photodetector for Broadband Linear‐Polarization Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐fiber broadband polarization photodetector is demonstrated by integrating a PdSe2/2H‐MoTe2 van der Waals heterostructure onto a fiber endface. The device exhibits broadband response spanning 532 nm to 1630 nm, a fast response time of 59 µs, and a polarization ratio of 1.99. This work demonstrates a promising hardware strategy for polarization
