Plasma Adsorption Perfusion (BR‐350) Versus Open Albumin Dialysis (OPAL) for Hyperbilirubinemia in Hepatic Failure in Cirrhotic Patients

The therapy with PAP using BR‐350 resulted in a significant decrease of bilirubin concentrations. The median relative reduction of bilirubin was comparable between PAP and OPAL (47% vs. 40%, p = 0.29). The crossover comparison between the single session of PAP using BR‐350 and OPAL revealed similar relative reduction rates of bilirubin.

Post‐Banding Ulcer Bleeding After Endoscopic Ligation: Incidence, Risk Factors and Outcomes in Patients With Cirrhosis

A PBUB is a rare but often fatal complication of endoscopic variceal band ligation. The relevant risk factors contributing to PBUB are unknown and consequently there are no effective preemptive strategies. This study highlights kidney disease as a predictor of PBUB together with the well‐established higher risk for urgent band ligation.

Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis Is Associated With High Mortality, Which Interacts With Antibiotic Prophylaxis in a National Cirrhosis Cohort

In a national cohort of newly decompensated Veterans with cirrhosis, SBP and recurrences are linked with higher death and need for liver transplant. SBP prophylaxis, whether primary or secondary, worsens resistance and interacts with mortality but not liver transplant.
