Interventional oncology in children: Where are we now?

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
Abstract Paediatric Interventional Oncology (IO) lags behind adult IO due to a scarcity of specific outcome data. The suboptimal way to evolve this field is relying heavily on adult experiences. The distinct tumour types prevalent in children, such as extracranial germ cell tumours, sarcomas, and neuroblastoma, differ strongly from those found in ...

The persistent advantage of model‐based phylogenetic methods for single‐trait prediction

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Reliable predictions of biological traits support a wide range of applications, from bioprospecting to informing conservation priorities. Given the complexity and diversity of trait evolution, robust methods for trait prediction are essential for drawing meaningful evolutionary inferences from phylogenetic data.

Outcomes of Prophylactic Suction Drainage Using the Freka Nasojejunal Tube Compared to Free Drainage on Development of Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Anastomotic Leaks

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Upper gastrointestinal tract anastomotic leaks are associated with increased morbidity and mortality, especially in the 30‐day post‐operative period. Techniques to reduce tension at the anastomotic site have been postulated to reduce leak rates.

Hospital Costs Associated With Mechanical Left Ventricular Unloading Devices During VA ECMO for Adult Cardiogenic Shock

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
In a cohort of patients with cardiogenic shock supported with V‐A ECMO, the addition of left ventricular mechanical unloading was associated with higher median hospitalization costs ($390 508 vs. $320 269), longer hospital length of stay (IRR 1.06, p < 0.001), and lower mortality compared with VA ECMO alone (HR 0.62, p = 0.006).

Characteristics and outcomes of men presenting with complications of metastatic prostate cancer

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objectives To describe the incidence, characteristics and mortality of men who present with complications of metastatic prostate cancer, a previously under‐reported population. We investigate men who present with and without malignant ureteric obstruction (MUO) and skeletal‐related events (SREs), collectively termed ‘metastatic‐related events’ (MREs ...
