Abdominal Decompression in Children [PDF]
Abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) increases the risk for mortality in critically ill children. It occurs in association with a wide variety of medical and surgical diagnoses. Management of ACS involves recognizing the development of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) by intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) monitoring, treating the underlying cause, and ...

Mesenteric thrombosis: An unusual complication of severe acute pancreatitis—Report of two cases
Abstract The incidence of acute pancreatitis is 34 per 100 000 people in the general population and is on the rise. Approximately 15% to 20% of all patients experience severe pancreatitis, with a mortality rate nearing 20%. This condition is often linked to vascular complications, although mesenteric thrombosis is a rare presentation.

Natural History and Diagnostic Findings in an Adult Man Diagnosed With Attenuated Krabbe Disease
ABSTRACT Krabbe disease (KD), or globoid cell leukodystrophy, is a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency in galactocerebrosidase (GALC), leading to psychosine (galactosylsphingosine) accumulation and myelin damage.

Survivorship of Individuals With Double Heterozygosity for Achondroplasia and Type 2 Collagenopathy
ABSTRACT Historically, double heterozygosity, or a diagnosis of two separate, dominant genetic conditions, was often thought to be lethal in individuals with autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasias. In previously published studies of individuals with dual dysplasia diagnoses of achondroplasia and type 2 collagenopathy, infants died of respiratory ...

Shortcuts to adiabaticity for trapped ultracold gases [PDF]
We study, experimentally and theoretically, the controlled transfer of harmonically trapped ultracold gases between different quantum states. In particular we experimentally demonstrate a fast decompression and displacement of both a non-interacting gas and an interacting Bose-Einstein condensate which are initially at equilibrium.

Liquid-liquid phase transition in simulations of ultrafast heating and decompression of amorphous ice [PDF]
A recent experiment [K. H. Kim, et al., Science 370, 978 (2020)] showed that it may be possible to detect a liquid-liquid phase transition (LLPT) in supercooled water by subjecting high density amorphous ice (HDA) to ultrafast heating, after which the sample reportedly undergoes spontaneous decompression from a high density liquid (HDL) to a low ...
