Abstract In this study, the feasibility of hydrophobizing pine wood veneers through gas grafting with palmitoyl chloride using a hot press was explored. To achieve this, the hydrophobization characteristics of wood veneer were analyzed under various conditions, including pressing temperature, time, and concentration of palmitoyl chloride.

Decorating wood flour/HDPE composites with wood veneers
Polymer Composites, 2016The low surface free energy makes wood plastic composites difficult to bond with traditional adhesives, such as urea formaldehyde resin (UF). This study investigates the decoration of wood flour/high‐density‐polyethylene composite (WF/HDPE) board with poplar wood veneers.

Manufacturing and Interfacial Bonding Behavior of EVA Film Reinforced Flexible Decorative Veneer
Wood and Fiber Science, 2021Polyethylene film reinforced flexible decorative veneer has attracted wide attention. However, its curling deformation has not been well solved due to the high processing temperature. Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) has lower melting temperature and better flexibility than polyethylene.

A New In-Mould Decoration Process using Real Wood Veneer
Progress in Rubber, Plastics and Recycling Technology, 2006The use of real wood by manufacturers in automotive interiors is seen as a mark of a premium car quality. The current manufacture of aesthetic veneered components is both costly, resource demanding and time consuming. An alternative in-mould decoration manufacturing method is considered here, using back injection moulding of wood veneer onto plastic ...

Surface properties of different natural precious decorative veneers by plasma modification
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2018Five kinds of typical natural precious decorative veneer rosewood, teak, black walnut, northeast China ash and red oak were treated by plasma at different discharge powers and speeds. The surface property changes of the treated and untreated wood were studied via contact angle, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ...

AbstractA new type of plastic-film-reinforced pliable decorative sliced veneer (PF-RP-DSV) for wood product surface finishing was developed. The plastic film served as both the reinforcing and adhesive material. Consequently, the veneer did not need adhesives during preparation and wood surface finishing. However, the interface bonding strength between

Polymer Composites, 2022
Abstract Wood fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites are regarded as a kind of environmentally friendly material obtained by combining recycled thermoplastic and wood fibers together. However, they are difficult to be decorated for using due to their non‐polar, dense, and smooth surface characteristics.
