Abstract Wood is an important and ubiquitous material applied in building and decorative applications, but it is easily invaded by fire, water and microorganisms. In this study, a new Ag nanoparticles supported on MgAl-LDH decorated wood veneer is successfully developed via simple hydrothermal reaction and silver mirror reaction.

Wood is a beautiful natural material with a unique visual appearance. There are no two identical pieces of wood in nature, therefore we consider wood a special material, and its application creates the impression of a unique product. This work connects two fields - design and wood technology and shows how we can use the unique visual aesthetics of wood
