A novel approach in high performance deep hole drilling of Inconel 718
Precision engineering, 2019Application of deep holes is extensively found in the oil and gas industry to manufacture downhole equipment. These deep holes are fabricated in drill collars to deploy delicate sensors downhole for obtaining vital information like temperature, pressure ...

Optimization of Deep Hole Drilling Processes with Smallest Drilling Diameters
2002The machining of tough and high tensile materials with single-edge drilling tools of smallest diameter is only dissatifyingly mastered, because of the applied tools being very brittle and therefore fragile. The situation is made difficult by the opposed demands for higher productivity with respective cutting speed and rate of feed simultaniously to ...

Investigation of Forces in Deep Hole Bone Drilling
Volume 3: Biomedical and Biotechnology Engineering, 2018Deep hole drilling is required to install prosthetic devices in surgical implantation. Compared to the common bone drilling processes, deep hole bone drilling is performed with a larger hole depth (i.e., up to a depth of approximately 35 mm in cochlear implantation) using a high ratio of the length to diameter of the drill bit.

Iterative Learning Method for Drilling Depth Optimization in Peck Deep-Hole Drilling
Journal of manufacturing science and engineering, 2018Due to the enclosed chip evacuation space in deep hole drilling process, chips are accumulated in drill flutes as drilling depth increases, resulting in the increase of drilling torque and lead to drill breakage.

Abstract This article discusses the deep-hole drilling residual stress measurement technique for measuring the strain of the component during stress relief from the removal of a small amount of material. It outlines coaxial trepanning to release the residual stresses, reference hole diameter remeasurement in the stress-free state ...

Deep Hole Drilling with Wireline Equipment
1988Heath & Sherwood Drilling has developed over the past 17 years, some unique equipment and procedures for the drilling of deep diamond cored holes. This paper will present some details on the rod strings, derricks, drill equipment, and techniques used by Heath & Sherwood Drilling to drill wireline cored holes to over 15,000 feet in depth.

Stainless Steel Deep Hole Drilling with EDM
2021The electro discharge machining is a promising production technique allowing to overcome the limits of standard drilling process especially in case of small and deep holes production in tough materials. A drawback of the EDM technique is the necessity to find optimal machining conditions depending on materials and dimensions of the workpiece and the ...

The Modelling and Control of a Deep Hole Drilling Rig
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995Abstract Drill bit performance in terms of average penetration rate and life has become extremely important because time dependant costs have become the major proportion of the total costs per meter drilled, due to the deep holes encountered, especially in the gold exploration drilling industry.
