Considerations in deep brain stimulation (DBS) for pediatric secondary dystonia
Child's Nervous System, 2017There is a paucity of effective long-term medication treatment for secondary dystonias. In situations where significantly impairing secondary dystonias fail to respond to typical enteral medications and intrathecal (or even intraventricular) baclofen, consideration should be given to the use of deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Acute brain reaction to DBS electrodes after deep brain stimulation: chronological observation
Acta Neurochirurgica, 2013As increasing numbers of deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures are performed, rare abnormal findings on postoperative images that are not attributable to well-known complications are reported. Between 2005 and 2012, we encountered several symptomatic patients with transient abnormal low-attenuation lesions on postoperative computed tomography (CT ...

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective surgical technique used to ameliorate the motor symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease. One of the key elements that determine successful patient outcomes is the accurate positioning of the DBS electrode during surgery. To describe a robotic DBS (R-DBS) procedure using "awake" technique. This procedure ...

Motor disorders of disinhibition may be modified by prosthetic mobilization of CNS inhibitory mechanisms by chronic electrical stimulation of the cerebellar cortex (CCS) and by deep brain stimulation of the thalamus and internal capsule (DBS). Reduction in spasticity, abnormal movements, intractable epilepsy and aggressive behavior has been reported ...

MR safety in patients with implanted deep brain stimulation systems (DBS)
2003While it is desirable to perform MRI examinations in patients with deep brain stimulators (DBS), a major safety concern exists regarding the potential for excessive heating secondary to magnetically induced electrical currents. This study was designed to determine the safety of MRI and DBS.Standard configurations of DBS systems were tested.

Experiencing deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Greece
[Trajectory of a patient with deep brain stimulation (DBS)].
Revue medicale suisse, 2015An eligibility assessment for deep brain stimulation is performed in order to select patients who are likely to benefit from it. Parkinson's patients have to stop dopaminergic drugs the day before surgery. During the operation, the patient must remain awake for recording of neuronal activity and for test stimulations to optimize the position of the ...
