Advances in Technology of CBM Horizontal Well Completion in Deep Area

International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2013
Abstract In 2011, a deepest horizontal Coalbed Methane (CBM) well in China, with a total vertical depth in excess of 1100m, was successfully drilled by Shell China E&P Co. Ltd (SCEPCo). The well, located in the East Ordos Basin, achieved a total 'in-seam' length of nearly 3600 m.

Can crops be irrigated with sodium bicarbonate rich CBM deep aquifer water? Theoretical and field evaluation

Ecological Engineering, 2008
Abstract A simulation modelling exercise, followed by field trials was carried out to assess the suitability of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO 3 ) rich water obtained from dewatering for extraction of methane gas from coal beds in the Limpopo Province, Republic of South Africa.

Study on the Fracture Propagation Mechanism in Deep CBM Reservoirs

58th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium
ABSTRACT: The matrix permeability of deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs is extremely low, but they are abundant in bedding and cleats structures. Hydraulic fracturing is the most effective method for exploiting deep CBM reservoirs. Due to the characteristics of deep coal seam burial and high construction pressure,

Case Study: CO2 Foam Fracturing Accelerate Deep CBM Reservoir Development in Ordos Basin

GOTECH
Abstract The Ordos Basin is located in northwest China, where there is perennial drought, little rainfall, and a fragile ecological environment. Recently, operators have increased their exploration and production efforts on a deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoir [true vertical depth (TVD) >2000 m], which is the cornerstone to ...

A Stability Analysis of Two Horizontal CBM Wells in the Deep Mannville Coals, Alberta Basin, Canada

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2011
Abstract This study describes the main technical challenges encountered while drilling the first horizontal coalbed methane well ever attempted in Canada. The well was drilled in the deep (>1,300 m), low-permeability (1–3 md) coals of the Lower Cretaceous Mannville Formation in the central Alberta Plains. The study also discusses the investigation that

Enhanced Reservoir Characterization of Thin Coal Seams: Application of 2D CNN-Based Seismic Impedance Inversion in Deep CBM Exploration

International Petroleum Technology Conference
Abstract Deep coalbed methane (CBM) exploration presents unique challenges in reservoir characterization, particularly when dealing with thin coal seams. This study introduces a novel application of two-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (2D CNN) based seismic impedance inversion for characterizing the No.
