Deep Cerebellar Nuclei (DCN) and Language

2016
The deep cerebellar nuclei (DCN) are the sole output channel of the cerebellum and form part of the cerebellar system of closed loops connected to the sensorimotor region, the associative cortices, and the limbic system. Besides a motor function, it has been suggested that the cerebellum, and therefore also the deep cerebellar nuclei, are involved in ...

Role of the cerebellar deep nuclei in respiratory modulation

The Cerebellum, 2002
The cerebellum contains three deep nuclei, i.e., the fastigial, interposed and lateral nucleus. Recent studies demonstrate that these nuclei play different roles in respiratory modulation. Activation of fastigial nuclear neurons predominantly increases ventilation via elevation of respiratory frequency and/or tidal volume.

Efferent fibers of the deep cerebellar nuclei in hedgehogs

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1974
AbstractThree main deep cerbellar nuclei are apparent in hedgehogs belonging to the genera Erinaceus and Hemiechinus; however, at various levels they exhibit a considerable continuity with one another. Electrolytic unilateral lesions were placed in the deep cerebellar nuclei of these hedgehogs, and additional animals were subjected to a midline ...

Long-term depression of IPSPs in rat deep cerebellar nuclei

NeuroReport, 1993
Stimulation of the white matter between the cerebellar cortex and the deep cerebellar nuclei in rat cerebellar slices, evoked inhibitory postsynaptic potentials (IPSPs) in deep nuclear neurones. These IPSPs had reversal potentials close to -75 mV and were blocked by picrotoxinin. Stable IPSPs were evoked when the white matter was stimulated at 0.033 Hz;

Signalling Properties of Deep Cerebellar Nuclei Neurones

1995
The firing activity of identified deep cerebellar nuclei neurones was recorded in alert cats during experimentally-induced eyelid movements. Type A neurones increased their discharge rate coinciding with the beginning of reflex blinks, regardless of the stimulus modality applied (air puffs, flashes or tones). The increased activity was modulated by lid

Quantitative Comparison Of Vesicular Glutamate Transporters in rat Deep Cerebellar Nuclei

Neuroscience, 2018
The excitatory synapses of the rat deep cerebellar nuclei (DCN) were quantitatively analyzed by vesicular glutamate transporter 1 and 2 (vGluT1 and vGluT2) immunolabeling. We calculated the number and sizes of the labeled boutons and compared them between lateral/dentate nucleus (LN/DN), posterior interposed nucleus (PIN), anterior interposed nucleus ...

Functional Imaging of the Deep Cerebellar Nuclei: A Review

The Cerebellum, 2009
The present mini-review focused on functional imaging of human deep cerebellar nuclei, mainly the dentate nucleus. Although these nuclei represent the unique output channel of the cerebellum, few data are available concerning their functional role. However, the dentate nucleus has been shown to participate in a widespread functional network including ...

Coding of Tactile Response Properties in the Rat Deep Cerebellar Nuclei

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2005
In the lateral hemispheres of the cerebellar cortex, somatosensory responses are represented in a finely grained fractured somatotopy. It is unclear, however, how these responses contribute to the ultimate output of the cerebellum from the deep cerebellar nuclei (DCN). Robust responses of DCN neurons to somatosensory stimuli have been described, but a

Cholinesterase in the cat cerebellar cortex, deep nuclei and peduncles

Experientia, 1965
