Shear Fault Formation in Granite Under High and Transient Co‐Seismic Strain Rates Unveiled by Ultra‐Fast X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract During an earthquake a dynamic rupture propagates, causing fractures and permanent damage that modify the mechanical properties of the fault and its surroundings. Reciprocally, the energy dissipated by the mechanical transformation of the fault rock has a direct feedback on the dynamics of the seismic rupture.

Cyclic Thermal Shock‐Induced Permeability Enhancement in Tight Lithologies: Microstructural Controls and Elastic‐Wave Monitoring

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Enhanced geothermal systems rely on increasing permeability and pore surface area in rock. Cyclic thermal shocking can achieve both by inducing thermal cracks through repeated rapid cooling. Laboratory experiments subjected micritic limestone, granodiorite, and trachybasalt to up to 10 thermal shock cycles, while tracking crack evolution ...
