Role of the modifications at the interface in glass fiber reinforced composites for damage monitoring. ABSTRACT Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRPs) are widely used in structural applications but degrade over time due to internal damage. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) enables early damage detection, improving reliability and reducing maintenance

The soft-rock roadways in kilometer-deep coal mines are often damaged by large deformation and have to be periodically expanded and repaired, which seriously restricts the safe and efficient production of coal mines.

Dusty Streets: The Challenge of Dust‐Borne Pollutants in Low‐Income Countries
Generally, pollution impacts developed and low‐income countries (LICs) to different extents, and the disease burden due to roadway dust is not uniformly distributed across socio‐economic classes. Roadway dust materials from paved and unpaved urban and rural roads were reported to contain organic constituents which are toxic and affect public health ...

Risk assessment and mechanism of rock burst for deep soft coal roadways
The occurrence of rock burst is related to the physical properties of coal-bearing strata. Under the same mining conditions, the excavation of soft coal seams at 1000 m or deeper has a lower risk of rock burst. The characteristics of rock burst in soft coal seams include a small impact influence range, large roadway deformation, and serious damage to ...

We identified five themes underlying research on intraspecific contact among white‐tailed deer: physical touch, social groups, spatial overlap, contact rates, and social networks. We found white‐tailed deer infected with chronic wasting disease exhibited similar rates of intraspecific contact as those without infections.

Unreinforced masonry (URM) structures are widespread worldwide, particularly in older urban districts. However, URM buildings—particularly those constructed before the introduction of modern building codes—are highly vulnerable to seismic hazard, and prone to experiencing local and/or global failures when subjected to significant horizontal shaking ...

Our Changing Climate Is Presenting Major Challenges to the Great Lakes Region
ABSTRACT The Earth's climate, including that of North America, is changing rapidly and the corresponding changes in temperature, precipitation, extreme weather, and other effects are accelerating. This changing climate is affecting the region around the Great Lakes and the physical behavior of the Great Lakes themselves, presenting new challenges to ...
