ABSTRACT. Cross‐transmission experiments were performed in order to determine the host specificity in the intermediate and definitive hosts of the four described dihomoxenous Sarcocystis species, S. gallotiae, S. stehlinii, S. simonyi, and S. dugesii from lacertid lizards of the genera Gallotia and Podarcis from the Macaronesian Islands. Sarcocysts of

[Hosts of Acanthocephala. II--Definitive hosts. 1. Fishes].
Annales de parasitologie humaine et comparee, 1989From an attentive study of the largest number of available publications, we tried to establish the list of fish species harbouring fully mature Acanthocephala, i.e. females with completely developed eggs. This character is the sole on which we are allowed to assure that this fish is truly a definitive host for the parasite.

MOLTING OFGNATHOSTOMA DOLORESI(NEMATODA: GNATHOSTOMATOIDEA) IN THE DEFINITIVE HOST
Journal of Parasitology, 2001Premolt, molting, and postmolt worms of Gnathostoma doloresi (Nematoda: Gnathostomatoidea) recovered from the stomach wall of naturally infected wild boars Sus scrofa leucomystax in Miyazaki, Japan, were examined morphologically. The only molt observed was that from the advanced third-stage to the adult stage.

Sixteen different species of piscivorous mammals and birds were tried as experimental definitive hosts for Heterophyes heterophyes, H. aequalis and H. dispar. The hosts were classified in four categories, by fluke longevity, recovery and size, and the number of uterine eggs (embryonated/unembryonated): (1) Canidae and the cat were highly susceptible ...

MicroRNAs in opisthorchiids and their definitive hosts: Current Status and Perspectives
Molecular and Biochemical ParasitologyOpisthorchis felineus, Opisthorchis viverrini, and Clonorchis sinensis (family Opisthorchiidae) are parasitic flatworms that pose serious threats to humans in certain countries and cause opisthorchiasis/clonorchiasis. Opisthorchiid flukes parasitize the biliary tract of the host, causing cholangitis, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis and cholangiocarcinoma.

Echinostomes in the definitive host: a model for the study of host-parasite relationships.
2008Echinostomes are hermaphroditic digeneans that parasitize, as adults, numerous vertebrate hosts of all classes. In this chapter, the main features of the development of adult echinostome in the definitive host are analyzed in detail. The stage of the echinostome in the definitive host undergoes a number of features such as metacercarial excystment ...

The epidemiology of fascioliasis in Malawi part II. Epidemiology in the definitive host
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1981The epidemiology of Fasciola gigantica Cobbold was studied in the definitive host and the epidemiological cycle was determined. The incidence of immature flukes was high in September to December and mature flukes from December to March. A survey of chronic fascioliasis was conducted covering almost the whole country.

The aim of the study was to elucidate the distribution and possible transmission routes of Toxocara spp. infection in Estonia. Out of 454 faecal and sand samples collected from park lawns and sandpits in the town of Tartu, 19 were Toxocara positive (4.2%). Out of the 45 sandpit samples 17.8% were Toxocara positive.

Immunology and pathology of echinostome infections in the definitive host.
2008This chapter examines the salient literature on the immunology and pathology of members of the family Echinostomatidae in their definitive hosts, with emphasis on experimental studies that may provide useful information on factors that determine resistance to the parasites.
