Definitive hosts of the trematode vector, Nanophyetus salmincola [PDF]

open access: yes
Of 149 wild animals from two western Oregon river drainage areas and other localities in which "salmon poisoning" disease (SPD) is enzootic, including ten mammalian and two avian species, 79 harbored Nanophyetus salmincola, the SPD vector.

A walk on the wild side: A review of the epidemiology of Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati in wild hosts

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2023
Toxocara species are cosmopolitan nematode parasites of companion, domestic and wild hosts. Of the 26 known species of Toxocara, only Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati are definitively zoonotic. The significance of wild carnivores as definitive hosts of T.

Editorial overview: From farms and forests to forks? A review of diagnosis and management of globally important zoonotic Echinococcus spp. cestodes

open access: yesFood and Waterborne Parasitology, 2019
This FAWPAR Special Issue is dedicated to zoonotic Echinococcus species. It is a compilation of invited papers that spans important aspects from molecular markers of emergence, diagnostics in both definitive and intermediate hosts, treatment of human ...

A Generalized Mathematical Model of Toxoplasmosis with an Intermediate Host and the Definitive Cat Host

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
In this paper, we construct a generalized epidemiological mathematical model to study toxoplasmosis dynamics, taking into consideration both cat and mouse populations. The model incorporates generalized proportions for the congenital transmission in the mouse and cat populations, along with the oocysts available in the environment.

Apodemus agrarius as a new definitive host for Neodiplostomum seoulense [PDF]

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Parasitology, 2007
A total of 1,496 rodents and insectivores were live-trapped at Yeoncheon-gun (n = 351), Paju-shi (804), and Pocheon-gun (343), Gyeonggi-do (Province), and examined for intestinal helminths, including Neodiplostomum seoulense, seasonally from December 2004 to September 2005. Six species of rodents, including Apodemus agrarius (1,366), Mus musculus (32),

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
