Magnetic Deflexion of Arcs

Nature, 1958
EXPERIMENTS carried out in this Laboratory have suggested that the movement of an arc between metal electrodes in a transverse magnetic field is determined by the motion of the cathode root.

Deflexion of Tapered Beams

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1945
IN the following investigation we consider the deflection due to bending of a tapered cantilever beam carrying concentrated end and lateral loads at the free tip. The mode of taper of the beam is assumed of a generalized form, and is such that the second moment of the area of the cross‐section at any point varies as the nth power of its distance from ...

The deflexion of elastic membranes

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1971
Abstract An approximate solution of the displacement equations governing the behaviour of transversely loaded, elastic membranes is obtained for rectangular membranes subjected to uniform loading. The solution covers all values of aspect ratio. Comparison is made with other solutions.

Deflexion of Beams

1976
In chapter 4 we were able to investigate bending stresses in beams using the first part of equation 4.1. This equation may also be used to examine beam deflexions.

Limit of Useful Amplification of a Galvanometer Deflexion

Nature, 1949
The following observations may be of interest in connexion with the demonstration of a short-period galvanometer by Attree, Downing and myself at the recent Physical Society Exhibition. The extent of useful amplification of this instrument has since been tested at University College on an ordinary afternoon : the limit is set by the disturbances ...

The Deflexion of Light and Relativity

Nature, 1944
IN a recent paper, E. F. Freundlich and W. Ledermann1 have pointed out that "the question remains unsettled whether the light deflection at the sun's limb amounts to 1·75″ as predicted by the Theory of Relativity or whether it is substantially larger, namely, equal to 2·2″ as indicated by the findings of the Potsdam Expedition of 1929 and confirmed by ...

DEFLEXIONS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, 1972
A SERIES OF SUSTAINED LOADING TESTS ON REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS IS DESCRIBED, IN WHICH THE MAJOR FACTORS AFFECTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF DEFLEXION AND CRACKING WERE VARIED. THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS ARE DISCUSSED AND METHODS FOR ESTIMATING DEFLEXION OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS ARE PROPOSED. /AUTHOR/

DEFLEXION ATTITUDES IN BREECH PRESENTATION

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1941
The management of breech presentation has received considerable attention in recent obstetric literature and various plans for delivery have been described with a view to improvement in results. In these contributions, the attack on common practice has been directed against unwarranted haste, premature traction, the abuse of cesarean section and the ...

Gravitational Deflexion of an Electromagnetic Wave

Nature, 1966
IT is well known1 that the velocity of propagation of an electromagnetic signal is governed by the boundary conditions imposed by the guiding structure, the type of modulation and the characteristics of the detector. It is possible that the velocity associated with an unmodulated transverse electromagnetic wave in free space may not be unique.
