Effects of Defoliation at Different Fertility Stages on Material Accumulation, Physiological Indices and Yield of Cotton

open access: yesAgriculture
In recent years, severe hailstorms have caused damage to cotton leaves and stalks. In order to identify the effects of cotton leaf damage on its dry matter accumulation, protective enzyme activity and yield in different periods, in this experiment ...

Revealing the Key Genetic Basis of Late Leaf Spot Resistance in Peanut by Combining QTL Mapping, QTL‐seq and RNA‐seq

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Late leaf spot (LLS) is the most widespread and destructive fungal disease affecting peanut worldwide, yet relatively little is known about its genetic basis. In this study, QTL mapping using a 1327‐bin map (derived from 9533 SNP/InDel markers) and multi‐environment phenotypic data repeatedly detected two major LLS‐resistance QTLs on ...

Alterations in plant architecture and physiology allow maize to sustain yield after early defoliation

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Maize (Zea mays L.) tolerance to early defoliation is shaped by genotype‐specific physiological and morphological responses. Defoliation disrupts the source–sink balance, altering carbon allocation and plant development.

Cotton rotation with single and multispecies cover crops affects yield, quality, and economic outcomes

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 4, December 2026.
Abstract Cover crops (CCs) have gained popularity in continuous crop production systems due to their agroecosystem benefits. This study evaluated the effects of nine CC treatments (single or multispecies) and no cover crop (noCC) on cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) growth characteristics, production, and economic returns in the Mid‐South United States ...

Effects of Mechanical Defoliation and Pinching Applications on Plant Growth and Root System Analysis with Machine Learning in Boxwoods

open access: yesBioResources
The effects of mechanical defoliation and pinching (1 cm tip cutting) on Buxus plant growth, nutrient mobilization, and root architecture were determined.

Leaf economics and tissue turnover dynamics in four perennial C4 grasses

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 4, December 2026.
Abstract Warm‐season perennial grasses are important components of pasture systems in the United States, yet their functional characteristics and relationships with productive attributes remain poorly understood. This study evaluated tissue flow dynamics and leaf economic traits in four C4 forage grasses: eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides (L.) L.

Longer defoliation interval ensures expression of the ‘high sugar’ trait in perennial ryegrass cultivars in cool temperate Tasmania, Australia

open access: yes, 2015
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) cultivars have been developed to express higher levels of leaf water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC), but expression of this ‘high sugar’ trait varies between environments and is likely to be further influenced by the ...

Impact of cultural practices on two‐spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) infestation in tomato cultivation in the Central Rift Valley of Ethiopia

open access: yesCrop, Forage &Turfgrass Management, Volume 12, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract The two‐spotted spider mite (TSSM; Tetranychus urticae Koch) is a major pest of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), causing substantial yield and quality losses in Ethiopia and worldwide. The present study evaluated the impact of tomato branch pruning and trellising on TSSM populations and yield in the Central Rift Valley tomato production area ...

Enhancing spring green‐up of warm‐season turfgrasses through late‐winter scalping

open access: yesCrop, Forage &Turfgrass Management, Volume 12, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract Rapid spring green‐up of warm‐season turfgrasses in the transition zone is often desired to improve early‐season turfgrass quality, thereby increasing the acceptance of these species in arid and semi‐arid climates. This study evaluated the effects of late winter scalping on spring green‐up speed in 41 cultivars of bermudagrass (Cynodon spp ...

Sustained Livestock Grazing Enhances Soil Organic Carbon Storage in Sub‐Arctic Grassland

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 4, December 2026.
We studied long‐term effects of grazing cessation on 34 grassland and heathland sites in Iceland. Grazing cessation was associated with lower SOC, nitrogen and root carbon in the top 10 cm of soil providing evidence for enhanced SOC in grazed land, showing that grazing is a climate change mitigation strategy.
