Influence of Laser Strategies on Performance of Lattice Structures from Magnesium Alloy WE43 Produced by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The body‐centered‐cubic lattice structures from magnesium alloy WE43 with high relative material density (99.5%), fine microstructure, high mechanical properties (effective elastic modulus of 136 MPa), and material properties (Young's modulus of 40 GPa) are produced by laser beam powder bed fusion using hatch strategy with skywriting.

Calibration and performance evaluation of a monomorph deformable mirror

open access: yesResults in Optics, 2022
To achieve diffraction-limited performance with a 50 cm solar telescope at the Udaipur solar observatory the development of a high-order adaptive optics (AO) system is currently in progress. The system includes a monomorph deformable mirror (MDM) with 85

Holomorphic discs of negative Maslov index and extended deformations in mirror symmetry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The SYZ approach to mirror symmetry for log Calabi-Yau manifolds starts from a Lagrangian torus fibration on the complement of an anticanonical divisor. A mirror space is constructed by gluing local charts (moduli spaces of local systems on generic torus fibers) via wall-crossing transformations which account for corrections to the analytic structure ...

Development of a unimorph deformable mirror with water cooling.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
Deformable mirror (DM) used for intracavity compensation in high-power lasers should be able to withstand very high laser intensity. This paper proposes a water-cooled unimorph DM which can withstand the laser power up to 10 kW in thermal simulation. The

MEMS deformable mirror CubeSat testbed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To meet the high contrast requirement of 1 × 10[superscript −10] to image an Earth-like planet around a Sun-like star, space telescopes equipped with coronagraphs require wavefront control systems.

Low‐Velocity Penetration Impact Behavior of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Strut‐Based Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS)‐based lattices are gaining attention for their multifunctional properties in applications as aeronautics and automotive, which involve low‐velocity impact loading. This work evaluates the low‐velocity penetration impact behavior of five distinct TPMS architectures.

A Demonstration of Wavefront Sensing and Mirror Phasing from the Image Domain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In astronomy and microscopy, distortions in the wavefront affect the dynamic range of a high contrast imaging system. These aberrations are either imposed by a turbulent medium such as the atmosphere, by static or thermal aberrations in the optical path,

Material Composition Gradient Controls the Autonomous Opening of Banksia Seed Pods in Fire‐Prone Habitats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The seed pod valves of Australian Banksia attenuata plants are not simply bi‐layers which bend when dry. These experiments and models reveal complex mechanics, which allow seed release only after several steps of seed pod opening. Stiffness gradients prevent delamination of the valves during loading, and a shape‐memory function protects the seeds ...

Research on a bimorph piezoelectric deformable mirror for adaptive optics in optical telescope.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
We have proposed a discrete-layout bimorph piezoelectric deformable mirror (DBPDM) and developed its realistic electromechanical model. Compared with the conventional piezoelectric deformable mirror (CPDM) and the bimorph piezoelectric deformable mirror (
