Active Beam Shaping System and Method Using Sequential Deformable Mirrors [PDF]

open access: yes
An active optical beam shaping system includes a first deformable mirror arranged to at least partially intercept an entrance beam of light and to provide a first reflected beam of light, a second deformable mirror arranged to at least partially ...

Extremely fast focal-plane wavefront sensing for extreme adaptive optics

open access: yes, 2012
We present a promising approach to the extremely fast sensing and correction of small wavefront errors in adaptive optics systems. As our algorithm's computational complexity is roughly proportional to the number of actuators, it is particularly suitable

Reconfigurable Metamirrors Based on Compliant Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Providing the basis for numerous practical applications, the reconfigurability of metadevices is of great importance. Through the integration of controlled mechanical deformation with chiral meta‐atoms, a compliant mechanism based metamirror is demonstrated for active control over the polarization of electromagnetic waves.

Structure modulated electrostatic deformable mirror for focus and geometry control.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
We suggest a way to electrostatically control deformed geometry of an electrostatic deformable mirror (EDM) based on geometric modulation of a basement.

Structural Motifs in Soft Fibrous Tissues: Revealing Structure‐Mechanics Relationships in Deformation and Tear Resistance for Biomimetic Material Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how soft fibrous tissues achieve their remarkable mechanical behavior through recurring structural motifs across multiple length scales. It highlights key advances in mimicking these features using fiber‐reinforced hydrogels and hierarchical composites, offering insights into mechanical compatibility, flaw tolerance, and tear ...
