Failure mechanisms of soft rock roadways in steeply inclined layered rock formations

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2018
In recent years, with the increasing depth of coal mining around the world, traditional shallow geology mechanics are no longer suitable for the research on deep geological problems. In terms of deep mining, soft rock roadways in inclined rock formations

Mechanical Behaviour of Ti–15Mo Alloy Produced with Electron-Beam Cold Hearth Melting Depending on Deformation Rate and in Comparison with Other Titanium Alloys

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов, 2022
Ti–15(wt.%)Mo alloy is produced with a conventional cast and wrought approach using double electron-beam cold hearth melting, 3D hot pressing, and subsequent rolling.

Observing Deformation Mechanisms at Microscale

open access: yes, 2022
For every project or application, it is important to select a material that exhibits the desired mechanical properties. To be able to do so, the performance of multiple materials needs to be determined via mechanical testing. Here, we present the ability to combine mechanical tests with microstructural observations, which gives new insight into the ...

High-temperature mechanical behavior of polycrystalline yttrium-doped barium cerate perovskite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The high-temperature mechanical properties of the mixed ionic-electronic conductor perovskite BaCe0.95Y0.05O3-δ with average grain size of 0.40μm have been studied in compression between 1100 and 1300°C in air at different initial strain rates.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Investigation on Deformation Mechanisms of NiTi Shape Memory Alloy Tube under Radial Loading

open access: yesMetals, 2017
NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) tube was coupled with mild steel cylinder in order to investigate deformation mechanisms of NiTi SMA tubes undergoing radial loading. NiTi SMA tubes of interest deal with two kinds of nominal compositions; namely, Ni-50 at %

A Creep Constitutive Model, Based on Deformation Mechanisms and Its Application to Creep Crack Growth

open access: yesMetals, 2022
In this paper, a constitutive model, based on the creep deformation mechanism in P91 steel, under a wide range of stress levels, was established and embedded into finite element software.

Chemically Responsive Hydrogel Deformation Mechanics: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
A hydrogel is a polymeric three-dimensional network structure. The applications of this material type are diversified over a broad range of fields. Their soft nature and similarity to natural tissue allows for their use in tissue engineering, medical devices, agriculture, and industrial health products.

Parton Distributions in the Impact Parameter Space

open access: yes, 2009
Parton distributions in impact parameter space, which are obtained by Fourier transforming GPDs, exhibit a significant deviation from axial symmetry when the target and/or quark is transversely polarized. In combination with the final state interactions,

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
