The existence and singularity structures of low regularity solutions to higher order degenerate hyperbolic equations

open access: yes, 2014
This paper is a continuation of our partial work in [21], where we established that the bounded local solution u(t, x) exists and is piecewise smooth for the second order degenerate hyperbolic equation (partial derivative(2)(t) - t(m)Delta(x))u = f (t, x,

Generators with interior degeneracy on spaces of L^2 type

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
We consider operators in divergence and in nondivergence form with degeneracy at the interior of the space domain. Characterizing the domain of the operators, we prove that they generate positive analytic semigroups on spaces of L^2 type.

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Perspective: Hollow Core Optical Fibres for Ultraviolet and Visible Wavelengths

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hollow core optical fibres bypass material constraints that limit optical fibres at ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. However, their challenging fabrication has limited their development, and significant gains in performance remain possible. In this perspective we outline approaches to enable the next generation of fibres for shorter wavelengths ...

Speeds of Propagation in Classical and Relativistic Extended Thermodynamics

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Relativity, 1999
The Navier-Stokes-Fourier theory of viscous, heat-conducting fluids provides parabolic equations and thus predicts infinite pulse speeds. Naturally this feature has disqualified the theory for relativistic thermodynamics which must insist on finite ...

Pholidota‐Inspired Electronic Skin Possessing Terahertz‐Wave Reflection–Absorption–Transmission Switchability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The pholidota‐inspired electronic skin is successfully constructed, originally realized four‐state reversible switching of terahertz‐wave reflection, absorption, transmission, and secondary reflection. In response to external demands, it issues deformation instructions, verifies the deformation state after the equipment executes the action, and thus ...

The equivalence of weak solutions and entropy solutions of nonlinear degenerate second-order equations

open access: yes, 2003
We prove the equivalence of weak solutions and entropy solutions of an elliptic–parabolic–hyperbolic degenerate equation g(t)t−Δb(u)+divφ(u)=f with homogeneous Dirichlet conditions and initial conditions.

A Toolkit for Targeted Neuromodulation of Striatal Direct Pathway Neurons Rescues Parkinsonian Motor Deficits in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An adeno‐associated virus (AAV) toolkit enables selective anatomical and functional targeting of striatal D1‐MSNs through retrograde transduction. Enhanced capsids and engineered enhancers drive robust transgene expression across murine and primate models.

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Unravels the Potential Molecular Link Between Night Shift Work‐Related Circadian Disruption and Elevated Blood Pressure in Human and Mouse Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This diagram illustrates that night shift work disrupts circadian clock genes (like CLOCK, BMAL1) in both humans and mice. This disruption leads to mitochondrial dysfunction (imbalanced fusion/fission proteins) and increased oxidative stress, which is identified as the primary mechanism ultimately causing elevated blood pressure.

Full‐Body AI Agent: A Perspective on Multi‐Scale Collaborative AI for Systemic Biology and Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We propose the Full‐Body AI Agent, a multi‐scale collaborative framework with 7 biological‐layer agents. It unifies multi‐omics/clinical data via standardized protocols, enabling phenotype‐guided closed‐loop reasoning, quantitative evaluation, and LLM safeguards, with promising applications in tumor metastasis modeling and precision drug development ...
