Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

An Existence Result to a Strongly Coupled Degenerated System Arising in Tumor Modeling

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2008
We consider a mathematical model to describe the growth of a vascular tumor including tumor cells, macrophages, and blood vessels. The resulting system of equations is reduced to a strongly 2×2 coupled nonlinear parabolic system of degenerate type ...

Global existence and nonexistence for degenerate parabolic systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2002
Summary: The initial-boundary value problems are considered for the strongly coupled degenerate parabolic system \[ \;u_t=v^p(\Delta u+au), v_t=u^q(\Delta v+bv) \] in the cylinder \(\Omega\times(0,\infty)\), where \(\Omega\subset \mathbb R^N\) is bounded and \(p, q, a, b\) are positive constants.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

A numerical comparison between degenerate parabolic and quasilinear hyperbolic models of cell movements under chemotaxis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider two models which were both designed to describe the movement of eukaryotic cells responding to chemical signals. Besides a common standard parabolic equation for the diffusion of a chemoattractant, like chemokines or growth factors, the two ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Carleman estimate and null controllability of a cascade degenerate parabolic system with general convection terms

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2018
This article shows Carleman estimate and null controllability of a cascade control system governed by the semilinear degenerate parabolic equations with the general convection terms.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...
