Degenerate elliptic equations for resonant wave problems
Abstract The modelling of resonant waves in 2D plasma leads to the coupling of two degenerate elliptic equations with a smooth coefficient $\alpha $ and compact terms. The coefficient $\alpha $ changes sign. The region where $\{\alpha>0\}$ is propagative, and the region where $\{\alpha <0\}$ is non propagative and elliptic.

Rational solitons of wave resonant-interaction models
Integrable models of resonant interaction of two or more waves in 1+1 dimensions are known to be of applicative interest in several areas. Here we consider a system of three coupled wave equations which includes as special cases the vector nonlinear ...

Bilinear Control of a Degenerate Hyperbolic Equation
International audienceWe consider the linear degenerate wave equation, on the interval (0, 1)wtt -(x α wx)x = p(t)µ(x)w, with bilinear control p and Neumann boundary conditions.

A shooting argument approach to a sharp type solution for nonlinear degenerate Fisher-KPP equations
In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of a travelling-wave solution of sharp type for the degenerate (at u = 0) parabolic equation $u_1 = [D(u)u_x]_x + g(u)$ where D is a strictly increasing function and g is a function which generalizes ...

The Chaplygin gas model is both interesting and important in the theory of gas dynamics and conservation laws, all the characteristic families of which are linearly degenerate. Majda conjectured that the shock formation never happens for smooth data.

A class of abstract quasi-linear evolution equations of second order
In this paper we study the abstract quasi-linear evolution equation of second order formula here in a general banach space z. it is well-known that the abstract quasi-linear theory due to kato [10, 11] is widely applicable to quasi-linear partial ...

Second-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation breather solutions in the degenerate and rogue wave limits [PDF]
We present an explicit analytic form for the two-breather solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with imaginary eigenvalues. It describes various nonlinear combinations of Akhmediev breathers and Kuznetsov-Ma solitons.
