Experimental Factors and Techniques for Pool Boiling Heat Transfer Enhancement: A Critical Review

open access: yesHeat Transfer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review presents a comprehensive assessment of active strategies for enhancing pool boiling heat transfer, with a focus on techniques that do not rely solely on the boiling surface modification. It examines a broad range of methodologies including fluid additives, external fields, mechanical interventions, and thermal‐geometric tuning that

Superheated drop as a neutron spectrometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Superheated drops are known to vaporise when exposed to energetic nuclear radiation since the discovery of bubble chamber. As the degree of superheat increases in a given liquid, less and less energetic neutrons are required to cause nucleation.

Evaluating Plasma Torches as a Low‐Decarburization Preheating Method for MgO–C Refractory Linings

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study evaluates direct current (DC) plasma torches using nitrogen as an alternative preheating method for magnesia‐carbon (MgO–C) refractory‐lined ladles. Full‐scale trials at 0.7 and 1.5 MW are compared to conventional gas burner. Plasma‐heated samples show lower decarburization and improved surface integrity due to partial sintering and reduced ...

Geometry optimization of the solar micro-channel PV/T evaporator based on regional differentiation in China

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Introducing micro-channel (MC) to photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) evaporator can significantly improve the utilization efficiency of solar energy. However, the regional performance difference of a MC-PV/T evaporator and the superheat degree demand of a ...

Plasmonic Bubbles in n-Alkanes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we study the formation of microbubbles upon the irradiation of an array of plasmonic Au nanoparticles with a laser in n-alkanes ($C_{n}H_{2n+2}$, with n = 5-10). Two different phases in the evolution of the bubbles can be distinguished.

Microstructure Evolution in Directionally Solidified Fe–C–Mn–(Si) Peritectic Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study investigates how growth velocity and silicon additions affect dendritic morphology, primary arm spacing, and mushy‐zone evolution in directionally solidified quaternary peritectic steels. Silicon substantially broadens the freezing range and lengthens the mushy zone, increasing susceptibility to interdendritic cracking.

Shape‐Determined Kinetic Pathways in 2D Solid–Solid Phase Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
By simulating 2D ball‐stick pentagon, hexagon, and octagon systems, the kinetics of solid–solid phase transition is investigated, which is characterized by the loss of body‐orientation order. During which, the local defects of body‐orientation self‐organize into three different patterns, originated from the shape‐determined kinetic pathways, which may ...

Study on Dynamic Characteristics and Control Strategies of Large Scale Cyclopentane Flooded Organic Rankine Cycle System

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 1, Page 61-79, January 2026.
Cyclopentane shows great potential as a working fluid for recovering gas turbine exhaust heat in organic rankine cycle (ORC) systems. A dynamic characteristics and control strategies analysis of a flooded ORC system using cyclopentane reveals that system safety can be ensured by adjusting the working fluid pump speed based on evaporator liquid‐level ...
