Dehydroepiandrosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate metabolism in human genital skin
Fertility and Sterility, 1990Genital skin samples were obtained from normal women and men to determine the extent of conversion of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and other androgen metabolites and to assess sulfatase activity. The skin samples were minced and incubated with 3H-DHEA or 3H-dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (3H-DHEAS) in medium for 1 hour at ...

Dehydroepiandrosterone and Bone
2018In humans, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), secreted mainly from the adrenal cortex, and its sulfate ester, DHEAS, are the most abundant circulating steroids. DHEA/DHEAS possess pleiotropic effects in human aging, bone, metabolic diseases, neurologic function/neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, immune system and disorders, cardiovascular diseases ...

Dehydroepiandrosterone and sport
Medical Journal of Australia, 1999Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a weak androgen, but is one of the main precursors of testosterone. Athletes use it for its androgenic and anticatabolic effects and it has been described as a "wonder drug", although there is little evidence to support these claims. There are no published studies of the long-term effects of taking DHEA, particularly in

Dehydroepiandrosterone and Addiction
2018Drug addiction has a great negative influence on society, both social and economic burden. It was widely thought that addicts could choose to stop using drugs if only they had some self-control and principles. Nowadays, science has changed this view, defining drug addiction as a complex brain disease that affects behavior in many ways, both biological ...

Importance of dehydroepiandrosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in different diseases
A harmadik dekádtól kezdve a szérumszintjük fokozatosan csökken, idősebb korban a maximális érték csupán 10–20%-a. Az

Dehydroepiandrosterone and ageing
Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2004Abstract Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is the crucial precursor of human sex steroid synthesis and thus mediates the majority of its effects indirectly, following downstream conversion to sex steroids and other steroids of potentially distinct activity.

Is There a Receptor for Dehydroepiandrosterone or Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate?
Seminars in Reproductive Medicine, 2004It remains unknown whether dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and DHEA sulfate (DHEAS) have a physiological role other than serving as metabolic intermediates in androgen synthesis. Apart from intracellular metabolism, there is no convincing cellular mechanism of action for physiological concentrations of DHEA(S). Unlike other major steroids, a receptor for

Synthesis of 7α-hydroxy-dehydroepiandrosterone and 7β-hydroxy-dehydroepiandrosterone
Steroids, 2005The fermentation of dehydroepiandrosterone synthesized from the starting material diosgenin using Mucor racemosus produced 7alpha-hydroxy-dehydroepiandrosterone and 7beta-hydroxy-dehydroepiandrosterone. The bioactivity of the microbial metabolites is also discussed. The species M.

THE SECRETION OF DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE AND DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULPHATE IN MAN
Journal of Endocrinology, 1973SUMMARY The secretion of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA) and its sulphate (DHAS) was examined by measuring their concentrations in adrenal venous, gonadal venous, and peripheral venous plasma. Both steroids were secreted by the adrenal cortex and the rate of DHA secretion was higher than that of DHAS in seven out of eight subjects.

DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE AND OBESITY
Nutrition Reviews, 2009A recent study suggests that the reduced urinary excretion of dehydroepinadrosterone and the elevated red blood cell glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity seen in obese subjects may be reversed during periods of weight loss.
