Blunting of Colon Contractions in Diabetics with Gastroparesis Quantified by Wireless Motility Capsule Methods. [PDF]
Generalized gut transit abnormalities are observed in some diabetics with gastroparesis. Relations of gastric emptying abnormalities to colon contractile dysfunction are poorly characterized.

Transcriptome profiling reveals significant changes in the gastric muscularis externa with obesity that partially overlap those that occur with idiopathic gastroparesis [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Gastric emptying is impaired in patients with gastroparesis whereas it is either unchanged or accelerated in obese individuals. The goal of the current study was to identify changes in gene expression in the stomach muscularis that may be ...

Effect of ambient temperature during acute aerobic exercise on short-term appetite, energy intake, and plasma acylated ghrelin in recreationally active males [PDF]
Ambient temperature during exercise may affect energy intake regulation. Compared with a temperate (20 °C) environment, 1 h of running followed by 6 h of rest tended to decrease energy intake from 2 ad libitum meals in a hot (30 °C) environment but ...

Delayed Gastric Emptying Following Gastrectomy
The characteristics of 46 patients unable to take a solid diet within two weeks of gastric resection and had no other post-operative complications are reviewed. The incidence of delayed gastric emptying was found to be 2 1/2 times greater in patients with vagotomy and hemigastrectomy than in those with subtotal gastrectomy.

The TRPA1 agonist, methyl syringate suppresses food intake and gastric emptying. [PDF]
Transient receptor potential channel ankryn 1 (TRPA1) expressed in the gastrointestinal tract is associated with gastric motility, gastric emptying, and food intake. In this study, we investigated the effects of methyl syringate, a specific and selective

Fluorescence imaging in vivo visualizes delayed gastric emptying of liquid enteral nutrition containing pectin [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Semi-solidification by gelation or increased viscosity could slow the influx of liquid enteral nutrition (EN) into the small intestine. A liquid EN formula containing pectin that gels under acidic conditions such as those found in the stomach
