Designing Metastable P3‐type Layered Negative Electrodes with High Na Vacancy Concentration for High‐Power Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A metastable high‐vacancy concentration layered P3‐type Na0.5Cr0.5Ti0.5O2 negative electrode material has been synthesized from its K analogues P3‐type K0.5Cr0.5Ti0.5O2 using a facile room temperature ion‐exchange method. The P3‐type Na0.5Cr0.5Ti0.5O2 demonstrates a gravimetric capacity of 125 mA h g−1 and high‐rate performance (80% charging in 3 min ...

Equivalent Long-term Transplantation Outcomes for Kidneys Donated After Brain Death and Cardiac Death: Conclusions From a Nationwide Evaluation

open access: yesEClinicalMedicine, 2018
Background: Despite growing waiting lists for renal transplants, hesitations persist with regard to the use of deceased after cardiac death (DCD) renal grafts.

Dynamic Micromechanical Characterization of 3D Printed Bone In Vitro Models Manufactured via Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel approach to designing and fabricating high‐porosity 3D‐printed scaffolds using a customized resin. Scaffold geometry, cellular interactions, and mechanical properties are analyzed to demonstrate these engineered bone models.

Wetting of Surface Grafted Hydrophilic‐b‐Hydrophobic Block Copolymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The wetting properties of surface grafted diblock copolymer brushes are influenced by the thickness of the hydrophilic bottom block and the hydrophobic top block. The surface adapts in presence of water and the contact angles of the bottom block shine through. Abstract The wetting of diblock copolymer brushes by water is studied.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Mimetics as Osteoinductive Mediators for Bone Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived nanoghosts (MSC‐NGs) mimic naturally secreted extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) in structure and physicochemical properties but can be synthesized at more translatable yields. As osteogenic agents, MSC‐NGs demonstrate superior outcomes compared to MSC‐EVs.

Making Photoresponsive Metal–Organic Frameworks an Effective Class of Heterogeneous Photocatalyst

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes photoresponsive MOFs for photocatalytic applications, focusing on their capacity to enhance light harvesting, charge transfer, and surface reactions. While existing studies provide foundational insights, emerging characterization techniques enable a deeper understanding of photoresponsive MOFs.

Delayed kidney graft function: from mechanism to translation [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 2014
In as many as 50% of cases the immediate post-kidney transplant course is complicated by delayed graft function that is most commonly related to ischemia and reperfusion injury. In addition to the acute complications related to renal failure and the associated economic impact of prolonged hospitalization, the development of delayed graft function is ...

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

Comparing the effect of immediate versus delayed initiation of tacrolimus on delayed graft function in Kidney transplant recipients: A randomized open-label clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Research in Pharmacy Practice, 2018
Objective: Delayed graft function (DGF) is an early complication after kidney transplantation with negative impact on allograft outcomes. This study assessed the effect of delayed initiation of tacrolimus as a nephrotoxic drug, on DGF occurrence and ...

Predictors and one-year outcomes of patients with delayed graft function after deceased donor kidney transplantation

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2020
Background Delayed graft function (DGF) is closely associated with the use of marginal donated kidneys due to deficits during transplantation and in recipients. We aimed to predict the incidence of DGF and evaluate its effect on graft survival.
