We discuss questions related to the cardinality, the effective construction, and decidability of the so-called deletion sets: the sets of strings obtained by erasing from a word the subwords which appear as elements of a given language.

It has been suggested in the ecological literature that species may be excluded (or "deleted") from an environment because they do not differ sufficiently from other species in the environment. We develop tests of various deletion hypotheses based on the assumption of a random distribution of species sizes.

If $\pi $ is a property on graphs or digraphs, the edge-deletion problem can be stated as follows: find the minimum number of edges whose deletion results in a subgraph (or subdigraph) satisfying property $\pi $. Several well-studied graph problems can be formulated as edge-deletion problems. In this paper we show that the edge-deletion problem is NP ...

AbstractWe report on a 15‐month‐old boy with a de novo deletion of the terminal band of 5q, macrocephaly, mild retrognathia, anteverted nares with low flat nasal bridge, telecanthus, minor earlobe anomalies, bell‐shaped chest, diastasis recti, short fingers, and mild developmental delay. © 1994 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.

Deletion 12q: A second patient with 12q24.31q24.32 deletion
American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, 2003AbstractWe report on a 20‐month‐old patient with facial dysmorphisms, microcephaly, cardiac septal defects, global developmental delay, and failure to thrive. Karyotypic evaluation revealed an interstitial deletion of the long arm of one chromosome 12, del(12)(q24.31q24.32).
