On some African Delphacidae (Homoptera) [PDF]
Very little is known about the African DELPHACIDAE, especially the tropical forms. For this reason it is worth recording the few species represented in a small collection made by Mr. J. C. Bridwell at Oloke-Meji, Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1914. All the specimens were swept from grasses and reeds.

The loss of the urea cycle and ornithine metabolism in different insect orders: An omics approach
Among urea cycle enzymes, only the nitric oxide synthase gene is universally present across insect genomes. All Hemiptera species lack the enzymes needed to convert citrulline to arginine, and some also lack the pathway from arginine to ornithine. Putrescine and spermidine synthesis is conserved in all insects, but aphids lack the capability to produce

Using fecal DNA metabarcoding to investigate the animal diet of black rails, yellow rails, and soras
We used fecal DNA metabarcoding to investigate the diet of yellow rails, Eastern black rails, and sora during the non‐breeding season. Arthropods, particularly ants, were prevalent in their diets, suggesting possible interactions with invasive red imported fire ants.

Biology and population dynamics of the potential sugarcane Fiji disease vector Perkinsiella saccharicida (Homoptera: Delphacidae) in Réunion: evidence of its loss of biotic potential [PDF]
There is a risk that irrigation schemes that have been developed to enhance sugarcane, Saccharum spp, cropping on the island of Réunion could markedly broaden the distribution range in which outbreaks of the insect Persinkiella saccharicida Kirkaldy ...

By quantifying the diet composition of GAPs over crop stages, farm types and years, this study reveals that generalist predators have potential to produce a stable, predictable top‐down effect on pests in rice agro‐ecosystems. Therefore, promoting the field densities of ubiquitous generalist predators will likely enhance pest management and support ...
