TreeSpider: In‐Canopy Exploration With Tether‐Based Aerial Modular Arms

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A tethered drone with perching arms and a 360° ring enables unprecedented maneuverability within dense forest canopies. By dynamically adjusting tether length and decoupling pitch from the frame, it navigates between branches, senses multiple trees, and interacts physically with foliage.

Applying colour-coded particle image velocimetry to the wake of a delta wing across a wide range of angles of attack

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology
The forces acting on a delta wing are predominantly influenced by local flow structures, specifically leading-edge vortices (LEVs). This study applies colour-coded particle image velocimetry (PIV) to quantify wake dynamics and lift generation for a delta

Investigation of wing structure layout of aerospace plane based on the finite element method

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
The aerospace plane is an innovative kind of reusable aircraft, which is able to reach the low earth orbit flying like the conventional plane. Two kinds of aerospace plane wing structures are designed and parameterized for the delta wing with a strake ...

Two distinct E3 ubiquitin ligases have complementary functions in the regulation of delta and serrate signaling in Drosophila. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2005
Signaling by the Notch ligands Delta (Dl) and Serrate (Ser) regulates a wide variety of essential cell-fate decisions during animal development. Two distinct E3 ubiquitin ligases, Neuralized (Neur) and Mind bomb (Mib), have been shown to regulate Dl ...

Backpropagation Through Soft Body: Investigating Information Processing in Brain–Body Coupling Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study explores how information processing is distributed between brains and bodies through a codesign approach. Using the “backpropagation through soft body” framework, brain–body coupling agents are developed and analyzed across several tasks in which output is generated through the agents’ physical dynamics.

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Impact of and adaptation strategies for sea-level rise on Yangtze River Delta

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research, 2018
The Yangtze River Delta characterized by a dense population and a rapidly developing economy is highly vulnerable to sea-level rise. The data from the China Oceanic Information Network and the Zhejiang Provincial Hydrology Bureau are used to analyze sea ...

Experimental transonic flutter characteristics of two 72 deg-sweep delta-wing models [PDF]

open access: yes
Transonic flutter boundaries are presented for two simple, 72 deg. sweep, low-aspect-ratio wing models. One model was an aspect-ratio 0.65 delta wing; the other model was an aspect-ratio 0.54 clipped-delta wing.

Study of lee-side flows over conically cambered delta wings at supersonic speeds, part 1 [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimental investigation was performed in which surface pressure data, flow visualization data, and force and moment data were obtained on four conical delta wing models which differed in leading-edge camber only.
