Tax & Rex: Overlapping Genes of the Deltaretrovirus Group

Virus Genes, 2006
Bovine leukemia virus and human T-cell leukemia viruses I and II, members of the Deltaretrovirus group, have two regulatory genes, tax and rex, that are coded in overlapping reading frames. We found that sequence variations in the rex gene of each virus result in amino acid differences significantly more often than variations in the tax gene.

Vulnerability to APOBEC3G linked to the pathogenicity of deltaretroviruses

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America
Significance Cross-species transmission of viruses is frequently linked to increased pathogenicity. HIV-1 causes AIDS in humans, while SIV-1 is not as pathogenic in its natural hosts.

Identification of novel RNA polymerase III promoters in bovine leukemia virus miRNA cluster by cross-taxa analysis of small non-coding RNAs

BMC Genomics
Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is an oncogenic deltaretrovirus that induces enzootic bovine leukosis. A defining feature of BLV is its viral miRNA cluster, which is transcribed atypically by RNA polymerase III via internal type 2 promoters rather than ...

Identification of occult STLV-1 infection in Japanese macaques.

Journal of Infectious Diseases
BACKGROUND Primate T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (PTLV-1) is classified into a genus Deltaretrovirus that persists in infected primates and can lead to adult T cell leukemia and inflammatory diseases.

Bovine Leukemia Virus Prevalence in Women with Breast Cancer and Premalignant Breast Lesions.

Viral immunology
The potential role of bovine leukemia virus (BLV), a zoonotic deltaretrovirus, in human breast carcinogenesis remains controversial, and evidence from seroepidemiological studies is limited.

Next-generation transcriptome analysis of deltaretrovirus induced leukemia: from microRNAs to macroRNAs

2015
