The Bayreuth nuclear demagnetization refrigerator
Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1987In this letter we report on the construction and operation of the new nuclear refrigerator at the University of Bayreuth. It contains two Cu stages of 103.5 moles in 8 Tesla and 2 moles in 9 Tesla, respectively. After demagnetization the first stage has cooled a Pt-NMR thermometer in the field free experimental region to 15 µK.

Physica, 1940Abstract It is found that the temperatures calculated from the magnetic susceptibilities of three different paramagnetic salts are in agreement with the temperature scale of Bleaney and Simon. The Stark splitting of KCr(SO4)2.12H2O. derived from the demagnetization experiments is = 0.263 degrees, that of Cr(NO3)3. H2O δ = 0.283.
