Critical street links for demand responsive feeder transit services
Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2013This paper presents a methodology to identify and locate critical links in a grid street network system for feeder transit services. A 'critical' link can be defined as a link that-when eliminated from or appended to an existing network-would cause the largest change in the network connectivity and consequently in the transit performance.

A Simulation Framework for a Real-Time Demand Responsive Public Transit System
2018 21st International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC), 2018Transit systems have encountered a radical change in the recent past as a result of the digital disruption. Consequently, traditional public transit systems no longer satisfy the diversified demands of passengers and hence, have been complemented by demand responsive transit solutions.

Demand-responsive transit circulator service network design
Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, 2015Abstract Commuter rail systems are being introduced into many urban areas as an alternative mode to automobiles for commuting trips. It is anticipated that the shift from the auto mode to rail mode can greatly help alleviate traffic congestion in urban road networks.

A simulation study of demand responsive transit system design
Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, 2008In this paper we study the impact on productivity of specific operating practices currently used by demand responsive transit (DRT) providers. We investigate the effect of using a zoning vs. a no-zoning strategy and time-window settings on performance measures such as total trip miles, deadhead miles and fleet size.

Modeling frequency of rural demand response transit trips
Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, 2018Abstract Captive riders do not have many travel choices to meet the travel needs as fixed route transit services are not generally provided in rural areas. In many states, demand response transit (DRT) services are provided to meet such needs. However, state public agencies face the dilemma of whether to increase or decrease the service availability ...

Demand responsive transit and the integration of D/R systems with traditional transit
Transportation, 1975This paper provides a background of the development of demand-responsive transit in small communities in the U.S.A. It also backgrounds traditional transit in metropolitan areas of the United States and outlines its deficiencies in terms of today's urban sprawl and in terms of today's society in metropolitan areas.
