The biotransformation by ring expansion of a bicyclo [3.2.0]-alkenone has been demonstrated in 29 species of dematiaceous fungi. One of these biocatalysts,Curvularia lunata NRRL 2380 has been shown to produce synthetically-important chiral lactones in high yields.

Impairment of Immune Response against Dematiaceous Fungi in Card9 Knockout Mice
Mycopathologia, 2016Dematiaceous fungi are a large group of pathogens that can cause a wide range of diseases in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts. Based on our previous finding of caspase recruitment domain-containing protein 9 (CARD9) mutations in patients with subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis caused by Phialophora verrucosa (P.

Taxonomy and morphology of dematiaceous fungi isolated from nature
Mycopathologia, 1980The Hughes system of classification was applied to the identification of dematiaceous fungi isolated from nature. The majority of the isolates encountered could be identified with this system using brightfield microscopy. However, phase contrast microscopy was needed to determine the mode of conidial ontogeny with some species of Phialophora, Exophiala

Epidemiology, Clinical Manifestations, and Therapy of Infections Caused by Dematiaceous Fungi
Journal of Chemotherapy, 2003The dematiaceous (brown-pigmented) fungi are a large and heterogenous group of moulds that cause a wide range of diseases including phaeohyphomycosis, chromoblastomycosis, and eumycotic mycetoma. Among the more important human pathogens are Alternaria species, Bipolaris species, Cladophialophora bantiana, Curvularia species, Exophiala species ...

YEASTLIKE DEMATIACEOUS FUNGI INFECTING THE HUMAN SKIN
Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1950YEASTLIKE dematiaceous fungi from various sources are occasionally isolated in all microbiologic laboratories, and organisms of that type have been described in the literature from time to time under such names as Saccharomyces niger, Schizosaccharomyces niger, Torula nigra, Monilia nigra and Pullularia pullulans.

Comparison of methods for isolation of dematiaceous fungi from nature
Mycopathologia, 1980Direct plating and animal inoculation techniques were compared for effectiveness in isolating dematiaceous fungi from nature. The direct plating technique involved comparison of aqueous and mineral oil extraction of the samples with subsequent plating on Mycobiotic and Sabhi agar.

Allergic Fungal SinusitisReport of Three Cases Associated with Dematiaceous Fungi
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1991Most reported cases of allergic sinusitis have been attributed to Aspergillus, based on the morphologic features of the organisms in tissue sections. However, in most cases, cultures have not been done. This is a report of three cases of non-Aspergillus allergic fungal sinusitis. The patients' ages were 11, 16, and 43; two were male and one was female.

[Osteoarthritis caused by dematiaceous fungi. Apropos of 3 cases].
Annales de medecine interne, 1985Three cases of osteoarthritis due to dematiaceous fungi are reported. The first case, a Drechslera longirostrata spondylitis complicating prosthetic valve fungal endocarditis responded only to the association of Amphotericin B and Ketoconazole. The second patient had chronic osteoarthritis of the knee due to Phialophora parasitica resistant to medical ...

[Spectophotometric method for preparing the inocula of dematiaceous fungi.].
Revista iberoamericana de micologia, 2012The aim of this study was to adapt a spectrophotometric method for preparing the inocula of dematiaceous fungi used for in vitro susceptibility tests. Fifty-two isolates of 17 different species of dematiaceous fungi were used for this purpose. Homogeneous suspensions of conidia and hyphae of these isolates were obtained and adjusted for reading at 530 ...
