Circular‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors with a Chiral Nanopatterned Electrode Inverse‐Designed by Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Remembering Democracy in the Debate over Election Reform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In FEC v. Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc., the United States Supreme Court held that the federal Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act violated the First Amendment right to free speech because the statute restricted a form of political speech known as issue ...

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Zwitterionic Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Simultaneous Noise Suppression and Hole Extraction in High‐Performance Near‐Infrared Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a new hole transporting material (HTM) mechanism for self‐assembled monolayers in near‐infrared organic photodetectors. The formation of zwitterions induces a strong electric field that significantly increases the work function of HTM‐coated indium tin oxide substrates. The devices exhibit low dark current and noise, along with high

Wealth and Democracy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The renewed debate over inequality has highlighted a set of deficits in much of the last fifty-plus years of thinking on the topic. The late twentieth-century tradition of thinking about distributive justice largely assumed (1) that market dynamics would

Atomic‐Scale Light Coupling Control in Ultrathin Photonic Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin photonic nanomembranes provide atomic‐scale control over the coupling between incident light and high‐Q photonic modes, enabling angstrom‐level resonance tuning and strong field confinement. When integrated with TMD monolayers, they further yield enhanced light–matter interactions, offering a versatile platform for advancing quantum photonics,

Beheaded democracies

open access: yesCrítica penal y poder: una publicación del Observatorio del Sistema Penal y los Derechos Humanos, 2016
The facts outlined in the following pages, though far from very long documents, want to serve only to "aide memoire" of conversations and reflections that scholars of constitutional law must hold at present, in view of the situation in which we find ourselves in Latinoamérica.

Democracy, Income, and Environmental Quality [PDF]

open access: yes
This Working Paper considers the role of democracy in environmental quality and the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). Some studies in the EKC literature have examined the extent to which democratic nations are more or less apt to have improving ...

Scalable Polyelectrolyte Complex‐Based Sorbent With Hourly Sorption−Desorption Cycles for Multicyclic Atmospheric Water Harvesting in Arid Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A polyelectrolyte complex‐based sorbent is produced by scalable, environmentally benign aqueous phase inversion. Its porous, LiCl‐ and GO‐integrated architecture enables hourly adsorption−desorption cycles at low relative humidity (RH < 30%). A large‐scale prototype achieves multicyclic, solar‐driven atmospheric water harvesting of 1.37 L kg−1 day−1 ...
