An Improved Evidential-IOWA Sensor Data Fusion Approach in Fault Diagnosis

open access: yesSensors, 2017
As an important tool of information fusion, Dempster–Shafer evidence theory is widely applied in handling the uncertain information in fault diagnosis. However, an incorrect result may be obtained if the combined evidence is highly conflicting, which may

Confidence Factors, Empiricism and the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence

open access: yesCoRR, 2013
The issue of confidence factors in Knowledge Based Systems has become increasingly important and Dempster-Shafer (DS) theory has become increasingly popular as a basis for these factors. This paper discusses the need for an empirical lnterpretatlon of any theory of confidence factors applied to Knowledge Based Systems and describes an empirical ...

Omni Geometry Representation Learning Versus Large Language Models for Geospatial Entity Resolution

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The development, integration, and maintenance of geospatial databases rely heavily on efficient and accurate matching procedures of Geospatial Entity Resolution (ER). While resolution of points‐of‐interest (POIs) has been widely addressed, resolution of entities with diverse geometries has been largely overlooked.

A Mini Review on Evolution of High‐Entropy Alloy Design: From Experimental Approaches to Machine Learning Integration

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT High‐entropy alloys (HEAs) have emerged as a transformative class of materials distinguished by their complex chemical compositions, unique microstructures, and remarkable mechanical and functional properties. Traditionally, the discovery and optimization of HEAs have relied on conventional methods, including trial‐and‐error experimentation ...

Assessing the Usefulness of Assurance Cases: Experience With the Large Hadron Collider

open access: yesSystems Engineering, Volume 29, Issue 1, Page 99-113, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Assurance cases (ACs) are structured arguments designed to show that a system is sufficiently reliable to function properly in its operational environment. They are mandated by safety standards and are largely used in industry to support risk management for systems; however, ACs often contain proprietary information and are not publicly ...

Multimodal Sentiment Recognition via Residual‐Contraction Convolution and Cross‐Attention

open access: yesIET Image Processing, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
We propose a structured fusion‐based multimodal emotion recognition (SF‐MER) method to enhance emotion recognition capabilities. SF‐MER extracts EEG and facial expression features separately, classifies them using independent classifiers and fuses the classification results to generate the final emotion category.

Paradox Elimination in Dempster–Shafer Combination Rule with Novel Entropy Function: Application in Decision-Level Multi-Sensor Fusion

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Multi-sensor data fusion technology in an important tool in building decision-making applications. Modified Dempster−Shafer (DS) evidence theory can handle conflicting sensor inputs and can be applied without any prior information.

Proactive Congestion Detection in V2V Scenarios With an Integrated Multi‐Layer Information Fusion Approach

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A multi‐layer information fusion framework for proactive traffic congestion detection in V2V scenario is proposed; The underlying correlation between vehicle motion characteristics and real‐time traffic states is addressed; The feasibility and priority of the proposed congestion detection model in low CVs penetration rate scenario is validated ...

Jeffrey-like rules of conditioning for the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence

open access: yesInternational Journal of Approximate Reasoning, 1989
Jeffrey's rule of conditioning is a rule for changing an additive probability distribution when the human perception of new evidence is obtained. It is a generalization of the normative Bayesian inference. Shafer showed how Jeffrey's generalization of Bayes' rule of conditioning can be reinterpreted in terms of the theory of belief functions.

A Multi‐Criteria Optimization Framework for Load Forecasting in Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Accurate short‐term load forecasting is essential for the reliable operation and planning of modern power systems under increasing penetration of electric vehicles and renewable energy resources. ABSTRACT The rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and the construction of charging stations have imposed a lot of stress on distribution networks ...
