Insight into the denaturation transition of DNA

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2009
DNA undergoes a helix-to-coil transition (also called denaturation transition) upon heating. This transition can also be facilitated by using solvent mixtures (for example water-alcohol). An increase in the hydrophobic tail of the second solvent molecule first decreases then increases the melting temperature appreciably.

Water mobility, denaturation and the glass transition in proteins

open access: yesBiochimica Et Biophysica Acta - Proteins and Proteomics, 2012
A quantitative mechanism is presented that links protein denaturation and the protein-water glass transition through an energy criterion for the onset of mobility of strong protein-water bonds. Differences in the zero point vibrational energy in the ordered and disordered bonded states allow direct prediction of the two transition temperatures.

Poland–Scheraga Models and the DNA Denaturation Transition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Physics, 2004
Poland-Scheraga models were introduced to describe the DNA denaturation transition. We give a rigorous and refined discussion of a family of these models. We derive possible scaling functions in the neighborhood of the phase transition point and review common examples.
