A convergent synthesis in which all trans double bonds were constructed by Wittig-Horner reactions produces dendrimers of the general structure 1. With long-chain alkoxy residues on the periphery of the benzene rings, the first two generations display liquid crystalline behavior.

Supramolecular formations of antibodies by their specific molecular recognition to antigens are investigated. Linear and network supramolecular architectures have been constructed by using immunoglobulin G (IgG) and divalent or trivalent antigens, respectively.

Tree-like dendrimers with decreasing number of chromophores from periphery to core is an attractive candidate for light-harvesting applications. Numerous dendritic designs with different kinds of light-collecting chromophores at periphery and an energy-sink at the core have been demonstrated with high energy transfer efficiency.

The synthesis, properties, and potential applications of rotaxane dendrimers, dendritic molecules containing rotaxane-like mechanical bonds to link their components are described. Rotaxane dendrimers are classified into three types depending on where rotaxane-like features are introduced - Type I, II, and III rotaxane dendrimers which incorporate ...

In this chapter dendrimer basics are reviewed. It is impossible to describe, refer to or even list the related literature (our "dendrimer" database consists of over 7,000 papers and patents), thus selection of references has been made based on personal preference, often choosing clarity over details and overarching principles instead of detailed ...

Dendrimers and Dendrimer-Polymer Hybrids
1999The synthesis and study of dendrimers has been truly dramatic in the last ten years. This review gives a brief introduction to some of the key concepts and main synthetic strategies in dendrimer chemistry. The focus of the chapter is a survey of modern analytical techniques and physical characterization of dendrimers.

Dendrimers are polymeric macromolecules constituted of a repetitive sequence of monomers growing step-by-step from a multifunctional core in a radial iterative fashion, not by polymeric reactions. Their synthesis offers the opportunity to generate monodisperse, structure-controlled architectures resulting in utility in specific biomedical applications.
