On the similarity of dendrograms

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1978
Abstract A metric on binary trees is defined to give the similarity of two dendrograms. One of the major desirable properties of the proposed tree similarity measure is to clarify the decision ordering nature of biological trees. This metric is applied to evolutionary tree reconstructions and comparative embryogenesis.

Three Dissimilarity Measures to Contrast Dendrograms

Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling, 2007
We discussed three dissimilarity measures between dendrograms defined over the same set, they are triples, partition, and cluster indices. All of them decompose the dendrograms into subsets. In the case of triples and partition indices, these subsets correspond to binary partitions containing some clusters, while in the cluster index, a novel ...

Dendrogram topology: nomenclature

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1975
A method of nomenclature for dendrograms of differing topology, based on arranging them from the most asymmetric to the most symmetric, is proposed. It permits the unequivocal identification of each ith topologically different member of the series.

Classificatory Dendrograms and Their Interpretation

Australian Journal of Botany, 1973
The constitution and configuration of taxonomic groups resulting from applying three classificatory programs-two intensely clustering and the third of variable intensity-to two sets of data relating to a base group of 54 grass genera scored for 62 attributes are compared.

A dendrogram of plant viruses

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1977
To facilitate the recognition of plant viruses with similar characteristics a dendrogram of characterized viruses was constructed. The sequence of criteria included: type of nucleic acid; single or double stranded; presence or absence of lipid envelope; helical or nonhelical symmetry; and divided or single genome.

Computer-vision-based extraction of neural dendrograms

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1999
This work introduces a new approach to the characterization of neural cells by means of semi-automated generation of dendrograms; data structures which describe the inherently hierarchical nature of neuronal arborizations. Dendrograms describe the branched structure of neurons in terms of the length, average thickness and bending energy of each of the ...
